  • Blowmonkey, I don't doubt you will be around longer than me, I don't live and feed on forums. I believe it's called projection when you see in others what you deny in yourself. I think you have anger issues. My skin is thick enough, I took offence to you calling someone ELSE stupid, implying their incompetence etc etc. I couldn't give a hoot on how long I'm here. I only plan to dip in and out if relevant and appropriate. Not feeding on others misery. And I do believe if you read site etiquette rules you will see the language and direction of your posts are in breach of that. I have found no cause all over the site to use the report button except in this case.
If you read closely, you will see I didn't respond to your "disagreement" of my post, or even the annihilation of everyone else who agreed with you. I didn't think your personal comments to others and insults were necessary, founded on facts or even tasteful. I thought site standards were of higher quality and callibre than the style of your posts. But please, do feel free to slag me off and have a go. Your opinion has already been discredited by your good self. In doing so, maybe you'll leave the others alone. Enjoy yourself, I promise not to post a reply.

Unfortunately not everyone is going to pat you on the head when you make your comments - people who reply also have their own opinions, this is what an open forum is. Welcome to the real world. Have you never had anyone disagree with you before?

However, it is VERY frustrating when someone repeats the same thing and says they want something doing, over and over and over and over and over again without listening as to reasons why the things cannot be done and why this virus is so prevalant. What's more - that person then admits they work in a hospital so they should know how these viruses work. In real life you'd be saying the same thing too - but behind their backs!! We are just open with our comments. Someone who has no knowledge of how this virus works should NOT be working in a hospital!

You are new here but if you want to stay, you need to develop a thick skin and learn that life is not always about agreements. This is an open forum, people have their own opinions and do not agree with what you have to say. SOME of this site is for money saving - but not all of it. If you do not like a post then this is what the report button is for. But use it too much and you'll get chucked off - you will find an 'insult' in every single thread on this entire board if you read them. Annoying people tend to get insulted I am afraid, just like in real life.

I suggest you take half an hour out, scroll to the bottoms of the forum and go to The Money Saving Arms and then pop into there and then Discussion Time and read some posts there - and you'll see the kind of thing I am talking about. Many of us have been here for a long time, do you still think we would still be here if this was the case? I think we are going to be around a damn sight longer to you.

Setting up accounts to slate and berate companies is, in itself, bullying and harrassment, so I suggest you think about what you have written yourself and go back and re-read the posts you yourself are defending.[/QUOTE]

My family (me, wife and 2 boys aged 6 and 2) were there for a week with another familly (2 adults and 3 boys aged 9, 6 and 2)from Friday 10th to Friday 17th.
The other family's 9 year old was sick on the saturday morning and so his mum kept him in the room all day (we were in the ocean hotel). He was only sick the once and that was it - he had a prawn coctail starter on the Friday night and we put it down to that.
Come the Sunday we were presented with a letter to say that the Norovirus was on site.
We managed to steer clear of any major "incidents" all week but then at about 2am on Friday morning my wife was violently sick in the bathroom.
She was only sick this once and we are now home and are hoping that is the worst of it over - saying that I feel a tad quesey this morning :S

One rather disturbing thing about when my wife was ill though :- When she was sick, she managed to do it in a bag, but it split in the bathroom and covered the floor - we mopped it up with tissues and towels and put these in some bin liners we had. We phoned reception straight away and the night staff (foreign as the vast majority of the staff seem to be!) popped up and took some of the towels away. We pointed out there were some more in the bath that had sick on them and he said that we should just put them in the hallway outside the room and someone would pick them up in the morning! Does anyone really think that is a hygienic thing to do???!?!? We decided that we could not do that so dumped them on the balcony instead.

We were talking to another family who arrived there on the Monday and although Butlins are claiming that they are thoroughly cleaning all apartments etc, it is clear that they are not. The woman we spoke to said that there were still crumbs on the dining table and kids fingerprints etc all over her apartment.

Also, the amount of people who blatently ignore the washing of hands and general personal hygiene routines is alarming! We washed and scrubbed at every given oppurtunity.

In the Ocean hotel restaurant, the staff were generally very good but whilst they were taking precausions by using gloves etc when serving food, it still didn't hide the fact that a lot of the plates, cutlery etc was still dirty after being washed - nearly all the bowls available for cereal had small food particles on them!

Trouble is - you are always gonna run the risk of this type of illness when you have large amounts of people in the same vacinity.

Will we return to Butlins? Probably, but I wont be paying to eat in the on site restaurants again!
    Nice to save.

I'm due to go on 1st July for a weekend in the Ocean Hotel, I have a son who has health problems and if he gets ill will probably end up in hospital, do we run the risk of going? Or do we ring an see if we can move it to a later date?

Apparently there was no reported cases over the weekend at all. Go on their facebook pages and post the question. I checked this morning and someone else had asked and they had reported no-one ill this weekend (it was over 18's).

Be aware that is is going around the area though so you might not just get it there. If you are worried I would change your resort.

    Thanks, I shall do that.

I'm thinking just make all the little melons wash their hands constantly and do what we can to be extra careful and all should be ok... I hope... haha.
  • We went on a Weds to Fri break at the resort (15th to 17th) staying at the Shoreline Hotel and I have got to say we found everywhere spotless, staff were cleaning behind us all the time and our room was immacculate. HOWEVER .... Saturday night my 1 year old started with vomitting then my 3 year old and I started with it all Sunday night. I have not been this ill for years! We are still dealing with it here at home, with my kids still being sick 2 or 3 times a day. Please please think twice before you go. We called on the morning we were due to go because I heard about it on the radio and the call centre assured me that the site was clean, the affected people had left and the environmental health had given the clean bill of health and said it is safe to travel there so off we went. But what they should of said that Norovirus has an incubation period of up to 72 hours and (if I am not being too simple about this) even though the affected people had left, the bug can still be harboured anywhere on site for the 72 hour period and then the whole thing can start again. Plus anyone going for a 2 or 3 day break may not feel the effects until they get home.
In my opinion, we had fun there but being this ill and looking after two ill children is not worth the two day break AT ALL.

bonif, just how many people do you think your family infected for the 72 hours before it came out? Will they be blaming you for it, or Butlins? Can you be 100% certain you got it from touching SOMETHING at Butlins and not SOMEONE who already had it when they arrived for their 2 day stay? You did have contact with any other people there? Did your son touch anyone or stand near them and they cough or sneeze?

When your son was harbouring the bug and he coughed into the air or sneezed, did he give it to anyone else nearby? And the other children that might have caught it from that cough - do they blame you? Or do they blame Butlins for not cleaning properly?

We came back from a weeks hol that started on Friday 17th at Minehead and finished abruptly on the tuesday afternoon. I have a thread on the 'UK holiday board' about how terrible we were treated.

We knew nothing of the norovirus when we arrived and apparently we have found out since that 34 people were also sent home from minehead butlins a couple of days before we arrived and also people were sent home from skegness too the same week. On butlins facebook page it says they stopped transferring staff from one camp to another on weds but the noro virus is contagious for 72 hours so it was still around when we arrived, but we were not notified of this.

My husband and dd both came down with a bug within two days of going there. I went to get a dvd for my dd to watch as she had stopped being sick and i just happened to mention that it was for my dd who was poorly and the lady whipped out a form quicker than the speed of light and the manager came over and told me we had to leave as we were contagious. Knowing what i know now, i agree that it was a responsible thing to send us home but the way they went about it was appauling....we were told if we didn't leave straight away we would be escorted off the camp by security. We were not spoken to in a pivate area and it all happened in front of other residents and we were not offered a doctor or medical assistance even though we asked.

We have since found out that people that were going to Bognor the same day as us WERE offered to rearrange their hol date and were made aware of the virus but we arrived blissfully unaware of the norovirus. Even when they told us we had to leave we were unaware that anyone else had been sent home the week before, so it came as such a shock to us all and we didn't know why we had to leave just for a virus or maybe something my dh or dd had eaten.

We are very angry at butlins and i wouldn't believe a word that butlins say about the noro virus outbreak now. We had already booked for next years holiday and we have now cancelled and have written to butlins to complain of the way they treated us like 'leppers'. We have been going to butlins for many years but that was our last holiday....so the answer to your question about taking your son with health problems to butlins is a big "no" for the moment until the noro virus has done its rounds there

I wonder how many people will put on this forum about the refunds they have received after being sent home with the norovirus? My Guess, not many if any at all.
