MSE News: Scottish Power to hike energy prices

Npower switch via topcashback is £70-70 for d/f and £35-35 for single fuel.0
-
I'm only single fuel so £50 discount beats Npower for me. Not available in all areas though I understand. If the ball had gone in the net it would have been a goal.If my Auntie had been a man she'd have been my Uncle.0

Gave meter readings so the chap could do some calculations and he took my monthly payments down from £128 to £118 per month (think I was paying slightly too much anyway as they didn't drop when I changed to OES13).
Although the cost of OES14 is slightly more expensive compared to the current OES13 prices they will be cheaper come August when the prices go up.
He did say that OES14 prices are not effected in August but that's not to say they won't go up at a later date but I decided to bite the bullet and just go for it as I am sick of all the palaver now and just wanted it sorted.
I am just happy that I have made a decision and don't have to think about it for a while......hopefully anyway!
Is OES14 one of the fixed prices one? I can't find a discounted rate one that ends in 2014 on my "Change my service" page...?0 -
No, OES14 is an online discount tariff. No one will offer a 3 year discount, typically they are around 12 months. No free lunch, and no free laptop0

I decided to stop angsting and switch from Scottish Power Online Energy 11 (which for me meant a dual fuel increase of a total 37.5% or £445 annual increase from 1st August - they must want to get people off that tariff and onto another with a T&C change somewhere) to Co-op Energy (I am in their Midlands pilot area, not yet known if they will increase this time, but they are 'only' 10.3% more than the old Online 11, there is £50 sign-up discount until July 22, there is no cancellation fee to exit, plus Co-op points, and they do pledge 'to be consistently among the cheapest'. We'll see.)
For those on SP OL11, note that there is a small para at the bottom of the price increase email, in grey 8 pt font, which unsurprisingly you might not have noticed:
*If you notify us that you wish to cancel your agreement before 1st August 2011 and we receive a request for your supply from another supplier within 15 working days, we will not apply the price increase or the cancellation fee for your product. If you have an outstanding debt, we may object to your supply leaving us, but we will give you time to pay the debt and leave us without incurring the increased prices.
That is actually more generous than the Ofgem rule, because it gives until 1st August rather than the normal 20 days to reject the price increase and notify intention to cancel, to maintain the old prices pending the switch; and provides for no cancellation fee.
The waiving of the cancellation fee (£51) - which would normally be payable on cancellation prior to 31 October - is no doubt not due to an outburst of philanthropy but more likely on legal advice (i.e. it's not a good idea to force customers to pay £51 to escape a 37% swingeing increase).
Check your price increase notification - no cancellation fees may apply to other tariffs, too.
If you ring the SP number you will get transferred to the retention people who will try to flog you some other tariff like Online 14 'which is not increasing on 1 August' (but is 12.3% more than the old OL11) but of course there is no guarantee that they won't put it up on 2 August or whenever. And who can trust them not to do that? Just insist on speaking to someone who can accept your cancellation, and get out of there!0 -
Hi Guys
Seeing as how a few of you seem really " switched on" excuse the pun just after a bit of advice,
Just looking at Uswitch right now this is my situation
Rekkied up the useage of 2010 -2011 and it was 3890kwh for the year, I do go round turning lights of etc just trying to get the family to do it too,
Useage is
>Electric power shower
>Oil central heating so nothing there
>Cook with electric,
>Usual lighting tv laptops etc.
>No bath and never have the emersion heater on for hot water.
>tumble dryer never really used
>washing machine maybe 4 loads a week maximum unless doing all bedding etc
>Under counter fridge and freezer and upright freezer outside always full.
So is 3890 a good consumption or could this be majorly lower? For this SP want around £73.00 a month:eek:
Im currently with SP and just looked on Uswitch and Npower coming up cheapest with....
Price £389.62 for annual price
Saving of £145.62
This is their Sign Online 22 plan
Guaranteed 2% discount till August 2012 against their standard plan, paperless billing is a must,, cancellation is £20 if before next june.
Quidco offering £20 cashback
Now i know reading thru it its screaming YES YES YES all thru, but could someone please just take the time to advise if possible please to make sure im not missing anything out here
Muchly appreciated xx2025 Wins ::

3,890kWh pa is below average consumption for a property with gas CH and DHW.
An annual electricity bill of around £389 should produce a monthly DD of about £33-where do SP get £73 from? Are you including some arrears in that figure? No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -

Thanks for your reply maybe i didnt word it right as i think there is some confusion
Currently with SP and my annual consumption is 3890kwh from 2010-2011 and they want £73 a month, recently changed from £56 per month, no arrears,
This obviously is electric only as no gas where i live.
The switch to Npower says if my useage remains the same the saving would be around £389 a year and my average dd would be around the £35 a month mark
Hope that helps.2025 Wins ::

The only thing you might not have accounted for is that Npower WILL put their prices up shortly but SP already has.
Try putting your annual usage into https://www.energyhelpline.com
Remember the other 5 have still to raise their prices.0 -
No confusion. Npower figures are correct, SP's are absurd, more than twice what it should be. Your DD should be set at 1/12 of your estimated annual bill.
Even a forthcoming Npower increase doesn't explain that difference. No free lunch, and no free laptop0
