    I called up today and was straight through. I was offered the capped option initially and also the OES14. On pushing him he also confirmed I was free to leave before August 1st without an exit fee. I've only been with them four months and got £60 via Quidco when joining so tonight I shall have a little look at what's around.

    Don't assume that these "average" increases apply to you - check your own tariffs.

    Mine is Online Energy Saver 11.
    Just checked my numbers on my quarterly billing basis spreadsheet which is much more realistic than the annualised comparisons.

    What the stinkers have done is to raise 1st 225kWh/Q electricity tariffs by 27% and the remaining kwh by 48% (that's an average 42% for me);
    and raise 1st 670kwh/Q gas tariffs by 55% and the remaining kwh by 24% (that's an average 32.5% for me).

    Astonishing. That would be £380/39% on my annual combined energy bill. These people are commercially cretinous because although there is a £50 exit charge before Oct 31, their crazy price hike is likely to make switching economic.

    The Spanish chairman Ignacio Galan has just had his package doubled to £10.5m. Nice "work" if you can get it. Appalling. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/finance/newsbysector/energy/oilandgas/8583543/Scottish-Power-chairman-has-pay-package-doubled.html

    Just need to wait to know what the price rises of the other gangsters will be, hopefully before August 1st, to make the switch and hold the old tariffs while they procrastinate (sorry, switch).

    Switched to the Coop this morning from SP OS10. £50 off my first bill and no exit penalties so when they put their prices up I can shop arround again. Current coop prices show saving £100. They should contact SP within 15 days so I can hopefully avoid the £30 cancellation fee..... bye bye SP and stick your 40% increase in your pipe and smoke it!

    N-Power have the best cashback deals via Quidco. Which tariff is actually cheapest?

    If it's a non fixed rate, Online 22 is the cheapest for me on a single fuel (saving £131) but only pays £20 quidco and there is a cancellation fee. The biggest cashback £40 is Price Protector but only saves me £14 and has cancellation fees as well.

    The Coop will directly discount the first bill by £50 and there is no cancellation fees so I've gone for them even though the saving is £30 less than NP Online Saver at £101 (but I'lll get Coop points on top). Despite not being directly available through comparison sites they said they are extremely busy with people switching from SP. Both NP and the Coop have yet to increase prices but at least with the Coop the discount is front end loaded and I could switch again straight away without penalty

    There's also always a danger Quidco wont track.
