fwiw, I notice when I log into my SP web account, Direct Oct 2012 still appears to be available under 'Change My Service' -> 'Discounted' at the time of writing.

I notice the paragraph relating to £42 IGT surcharge has been omitted from the PDF file for the Direct Oct 2012 tariff too.

I've dived in while the option is still there, my online account will be restricted for the next 3 days whilst they process the change, so should find out if i got in then.

I spent half of yesterday looking for a letter from SP, looking here made me realise that it was actually an email that I had received :o

I had switched to the June 2013 capped tariff, but I think that I will be ringing tomorrow to cancel.
Somewhat annoyed (but not surprised) that none of this was mentioned when I rang last week prior to receiving the email.

I've been with Scottish Power for a number of years and I generally just go for the best plan they have when the current one runs out. However, the news of the massive hikes worried me - my plan wasn't due to finish till after the price hikes were introduced.

So I decided to try uswitch etc and consider switching, and pay the exit fee. First though, I wasn't sure whether I had to pay £50 for each of the gas and electricity, or whether I just had to pay £50 for both of them and that's all.

So I called them and said I'd seen a fixed EDF offer and it was worth my switching and paying the penalty. So I said just tell me, do I have to pay £50 or £100, it's worth it for me either way. The guy said it would just be £50, but hang on, could he do something for me...

Now, I didn't really want to switch to EDF as I'd looked at reviews and didn't like what I saw. So I said ok, what have you got. Well, he said that if I was switching plan but staying with them, they'd overlook the exit fee. Then he said that he'd move me straight away from the online energy saver to the capped till June 2013, and I'd be guaranteed not to get any rises.

Now, I have been paying £145 a month for my gas and electricity, and I figured it would go up to £165 after the rises came in. Instead, he told me it would go down to £140 with immediate effect and now I don't have to worry about any rises at all! Brilliant...

But I've never seen them advertise that you can switch plan with them and not pay the exit fee. It made a difference to me. Now I feel like I am saving a couple of hundred a year without even switching supplier :)

Just had a follow up call from SP customer service after contacting them about two hours ago requesting a change of tariff.

New OES14 tariff confirmed from today and bill for old OES12 exactly right from my meter readings I gave today.:D

Also a cut in my DD from next month.:T

Forget all the nonsense of fixing, go for the biggest savings that you find on the comparison sites.
The other 5 still have to hike so if SP comes out on top today, it`ll still be on top when the other 5 increase but even more so.

Well I was told that the Capped Rate would cost slightly more because they are capping the price for two years so our payments work out slightly more now we have switched over. I don't see how it could cost less to be honest :(
  • Scottish Power lied,
I have been on their Online Energy Saver 10 tariff since October last year, believing that my prices were fixed for a year. My recent communication from them shows increases of 34% on Electricity and 45% on Gas.
See email from them below, how that comes to 15-17.5% I'll never know. Monopolies the lot of them. :(
    Dear Mr R
You may have seen in the news recently that rising prices have been making the headlines. Prices for many things, from food to petrol, have gone up. Wholesale energy prices have been rising dramatically too, and although we’ve been doing what we can to absorb these costs for as long as possible, we now have to increase our prices.
    Your new prices
The new prices will come into effect from 1st August 2011. Please see below to see what they mean for you. But remember, you’ll continue to benefit from a minimum 2% discount on our standard monthly Direct Debit prices^ until the end of your current Online Energy Saver Offer.

ElectricityTariff: Domestic Single Rate Premier Plus (No Standing Charge)Electricity prices
    Current† New†
    First 225kWh used each quarter17.335p 23.725p
    All/Day remaining kWh 8.446p 11.266p Gas

Tariff: Premier Plus (No Standing Charge)
    Gas prices Current† New†
    First 670kWh used each quarter 4.835p 7.541p
    All/Day remaining kWh 2.630p 3.457p
†All prices shown in the table exclude VAT. Note that VAT at the applicable rate (currently 5%) is applied to domestic energy bills in Great Britain.

    What this means to you
If you don't think these prices are right for you, please contact us and we will be happy to discuss your options with you. You are also free to end your agreement by changing your supplier*. For clear, impartial advice about switching suppliers please To see your previous consumption and a forecast of your future spend, log in to your account on or after 1st August 2011 to generate a bill and an estimate of what you could pay over the next 12 months. Our estimation will be based on your previous year’s consumption.
    Keeping you on track
We review your account every three months. This is because we want to make sure how much you pay each month keeps pace with the amount of energy you use. So you can rest assured that if your monthly Direct Debit needs to change, we'll keep you updated.

    https://www.energyhelpline.com

Uses the NEW 1st Aug prices and are probably the most accurate of all the sites.

So if sp online 14 comes up as cheapest then that's accurate for me? Thx

Also are the capped till june 2013 sp deals good as today you get £60 back?

If I switch today from edf , deal runs out on 30th June. Will I incur fees?

    Thx
