I don't think they would allow that,or else everyone would be doing so .Correct me if i'm wrong, and if someone has succeeded then we all ought to know!!

Maybe not, did you ask? But I bet OES14 doesn't get withdrawn or change before 1st Aug anyway.

I'm going to stay put till the last minute.

Scottish Power has announced it will hike electricity prices by 10% and gas prices by a whopping 19% from 1 August, in a bitter blow to 2.4 million households

I have just received an email from scottish power detailing the current prices I am paying for gas and electricity and their new prices (per Kwh )which will come into force on 1st August. I have an 'Online Energy Saver 11' account - my electricity price rise is 31% and the gas price rise is 51% for the first 670 Kwh per quarter and 34% thereafter!

Apart from those on very recently introduced tariffs we are all gobsmacked at the level of the rise. This thread has been absolutely invaluable in deciding what to do.

    Welcome by the way !

I'm moving to EDF Fixed until 2014, which will still be £100 cheaper than SP Online 12 after the rise and this forum has taught me I'd rather not have to go through all this again for as long as possible!

As I need to call them and reject the rise, and EDF need to contact them within 14 days in order for me not to pay an exit fee, how long should I wait after contacting EDF before I let Scottish Power know?

I emailed SP about rejecting the price rise and they told me I would have to pay £50 cancellation fee as it runs until Nov 2011. Has anyone else had the same problem?

AIUI it's not the price rise itself they are investigating but one of the promotional offers that was launched with it.

I have gone online to get a quote for the cheapest tariff. According to the list produced the cheapest is Capped June 2013 Version B (NSC) but although when I have entered my annual consumption which according to my calculations put us into a Medium User bracket and the cost on the tariff for SP is £1100 for a Medium User, according to their calculation from my annual usage we are not a Medium User as the cost comes out at £1289.47. I have just spoken with SP and they calculate my usage to come out at £1363 based on a full year although we have only been with SP for 9 months (don't know how they arrive at that figure). They say the Capped Rate June 2013 NSC is the cheapest for us and the reason the annual usage was calculated as more was probably because we had a bad winter last year and the fact that we are now retired we will probably use more anyway so according to them the Capped Rate is a better option for us although they will increase our Direct Debit to £99 per month from £91 per month (partly due to a debit on the account of £45), they say it represents a good buy as it is capped for 2 yrs.

I do hope so, I can't face keep going through this pullava every year. The good news is that we are hoping to move within the next twelve months and can take the rate with us, so no cancellation charges apply.

One good tip I was given by the operator at SP was to enter my readings every month on the same day to calculate the cost and keep track of my usage and thereby it helps to keep the direct debit down to the same amount and helps you get a good habit of tracking your usage and switching things off to keep the cost down ! :T

Well that IS interesting. The article states that Scottish Power have said that the tariff in question, the direct12 is now fully subscribed. And when i checked on their website, sure enough they don't have ANY discounted tariffs!!

So what on earth is going on? Are they fearful of this latest scrutiny and are "working on it" as they state?

It is the shocking percentage rise, far more than they stated, that should be in question. We can all work out which is the best tariff for each of us,according to what we are currently,or will be ,paying.

    Watch this space(or rather,theirs!!)

I always do this now, on the same day the direct debit goes out, so that I get a monthly bill and know exactly where I stand.
