MSE News: Scottish Power to hike energy prices

I was going to change on line through my account to the "Direct 2012" but I can't identify it from the list of "Guaranteed, Discounted, All" as the tariff Scottish Direct 2012 is not listed.
Am I being thick or something ?:)
Also if i move house can I keep with the same tariff or if I leave the area do I have to pay a penalty ?0 -
I am a carer full time looking after my 85 year old mum. We are with Scottish Power and pay around £2080 per annum on a pay when we get the bill type deal for gas and electricity.
Called them to get some help after our bills have soared (medical equipment in use 24/7 etc) and with the big rise coming.
Was told the best they can offer was a price of £175 pm direct debit - which they told me would be capped to Jun 2013.
Now that seems almost exactly what we pay now - in fact a tad more than we do - and yet we were told we were making substantial savings by going on line and monthly direct debit.
All we seem to be doing is postponing the 20% rise for 2 years. Is that correct? And if prices go down presumably we lose out?
Going onto all the on line comparison sites with our exact usage for the past year they claim a SP total bill of over £100 less than above. And also a direct offer to October 2012 of over £400 less. Yet this is not mentioned on their web site or offered by phone as the post above notes.
The comparison sites make equally big savings claims (down into the £1600s) for various other suppliers but given the above not sure how accurate to regard these.
Now not clear what the best option might be. Was hoping SP might offer a reasonable deal to stay as we would be happier not switching but this hardly seems a great offer.0 -
Well,i have just come off the phone after finally getting my email this morning from them.
She said i could only change to direct 12 online, but the oes14 i could do on the phone.Very strange!!
So basically i still have the dilemma of whether to risk it and wait or do it now and lose 5 weeks lower rates.
What are others doing?
I have also just received the email. I am going to wait - last time I changed to OES 12 before my deal ran out and they launched OES13 which was cheaper.
I actually like SP, we enter our readings on the 1st of every month so can see what we are using and in December which was a very heavy month we did a one off additionsl payment so that our credit stayed the same and they didn't want to raise our DD.0 -
Whats to stop you asking to change tariff, then stipulating "Not to take effect till August?"0

It is under the discounted one and certainly shows up for me.
If you move home and change supplier,it is in their terms and conditions that you can do so without a penalty.0 -

:mad:They cant get me on a Fixed price plan but have informed me by mail that the Daily Service Charge has gone from 15.23p to 31.48p on my electricity and 28.89p to 35.41p on my Gas in August. Really not happy!
Is it that I have been paying under the odds or just S.P. clawing back money due to the savings I make on the fixed deal?0
