MSE News: Scottish Power to hike energy prices

This tariff includes £105 in discounts which you will not receive untill the end of each full year. NOT pro-rata!! Pay in advance and hope to get your £105 back !!!
Doesn't sound good ?
It effectively ties you in for at least a year although the fixed tariff does that anyway.
The crunch comes when you decide to leave Npower because if the FULL year`s not completed
no discount.
The other thing I don`t like about Npower is they vary their tier one usage amounts depending on what months of the year it is.
A company best avoided.0 -
I was aware the £105 rebate at the end of the year was included in the calculations.....but the fixed rate tarif is until July 2012, so I will stay for a year and get the £105 back (I received this payment last time I was with NP). My only other options were to go with NP SOL 22 (same £105 rebate as Go Fix 6? And potential price rises later on) or SP OES 14 (£2 cheaper, but again with a likely price rise sometime this Autumn...just when you need the gas and electric!), or stick with the rate offered by SP and pay over £140 more! Caught between a rock and a hard place, NP Go Fix 6 looked the "least worst" option to me!
Go Fix 6 only has 1 unit rate for gas (3.575p) and 1 for electric (10.563p).....the standing charge rates are eye watering...'Compound interest is the eighth wonder of the world. He who understands it, earns it; he who doesn’t, pays it' - Albert Einstein.0 -
Well I got the price increase email today and it bears no resemblance to the account I'm supposed to be on so I'm no further forward in deciding what future package/supplier to have.
I will treat it as not being notified of prices increases. What a shambles.0 -

As you probably know from my posts I`ve decided to stick with SP and go for either OES14 (if available to me, which I doubt) or failing that Direct Oct 2012.
http://www.scottishpower.co.uk/your-home/existing-customer/scottishpower-energy-direct.aspx
Our new ScottishPower Direct October 2012 offer has limited availability .
This is the bit that concerns me and by waiting until late July to change will this tariff no longer be available and by then could we see Direct November 2012 with higher rates?
It`s impossible to know for sure but could this be the start of a run of "Direct 2012/2013" tariffs to replace the OES tariffs?0 -
This is a problem for a lot of us,2010.Are they scaring us into jumping on to a higher tariff now, losing out on lower prices for another month or so? Or are they going to pull it soon, with a "tough luck,we warned you" attitude?
And once we sign up for the non fixed tariffs will they put up the prices after a couple of months,in time for the colder weather and there is NOTHING we can do about it,as they only guarantee a minmum discount of 1 or 2%.0 -
I`ve just emailed them because I was fed up hanging on the phone for the last half hour.
Basically I want to know if the OES 14 is available to me or do I have to have Direct Oct 2012.
The future price increases we`ll have to chance, but with the other "big 5" still to massively increase their prices and all the uproar it`ll cause, hopefully there won`t be any BIG rises for a while.
The problem is they all bring out a new tariff every other month with an increase in prices.
It makes a nonsense of having a regulator that lets them have about 50 different tariffs each.0 -
i'm going to join e.on age protection april 2013 for gas and n power gofix 6 for electric.this way it is coming cheaper for me rather than retaining scottish power as a supplier.0

Well,i have just come off the phone after finally getting my email this morning from them.
Used the freephone number so didn't mind how long it took!! which was 23 mins.Of course they professed not to know when direct12 was going to be removed from availabilty, nor did they know how long it might be before that price would rise.Got the usual speil about capping but stated had looked at that and didn't want to,end of.
She could not confirm there would be no charge for changing tariff but assured me that if it was put on to my account there was no way they would want to lose me as a customer for the sake of the charge.
She said i could only change to direct 12 online, but the oes14 i could do on the phone.Very strange!!
So basically i still have the dilemma of whether to risk it and wait or do it now and lose 5 weeks lower rates.
What are others doing?0 -
What would everybody else do in my situation?
I'm on the Online Discounted Energy March 2012. I am in flat, just use electricity and pay £35 a month by Direct Debit.
Presumably on August 1st I will start paying £41.65.
I'm thinking I wait a couple more weeks to see what the other suppliers increase by?0 -

What you should do NOW is to put your yearly usage into https://www.energyhelpline.com and find out your best deal.
You have to do something by 1st Aug or face the increase.0
