MSE News: Scottish Power to hike energy prices

I'm on OES13 and planning to move to another SP tariff. I spoke to a very helpful Natasha at Customer Services yesterday (after over 60 minutes on hold). She confirmed that if I wanted a discounted tariff then OES14 or Direct2012 would be the best for me and that by moving inside SP I would not incur any exit fee. She also told me that I would be able to instigate the change of tariff through their web site, on my account, from 09:00 today. Unfortunately that part wasn't true (probably no fault of Natasha's) as the options still aren't available this evening.
For reference I've calculated my yearly costs (Gas & Electricity) as: -
OES13 (today's prices) - £805
OES13 from 01 Aug - £925
OES14 (no increase on 01 Aug) - £831
Direct2012 (no increase on 01 Aug) - £831
Yes, OES14 and Direct2012 workout within pennies.
I can't makeup my mind which tariff to change to when the option is available. Any suggestions?0 -
Just checked my SP account under "Change your service" and no option for me either to change to OLES 14 (I'm currently on OLES 10). However, you can sign up for it online from here:

But I'd rather wait until the option is available under my account as I'm in no rush.0 -

If these 2 tariffs work out to be within pennies of each other as you say, then I would have thought that OES 14 would be the one to go for on the basis that it is guaranteed to be at least 2% below the standard monthly direct debit prices, whereas, the guarantee on Direct2012 is to only be at least 1% below the standard monthly direct debit prices.
I think I will opt for Direct2012 though, as for me, it works out about £21 a year cheaper than OES 14.
Based on what I have said above, I hope that others will let us know whether they agree with my recommendation of OES 14 for SnakeDoctor, and Direct2012 for me?0 -
I rang SP today.
In order to switch tarrifs, they told me to log into my SP account and
Click "Change My Service" -> Click "Continue" against option "SP DIRECT NSC".
Then enter your meter readings.
Then you come to the screen:
You have selected:
Package: SP DIRECT NSC
Payment option: Monthly Direct Debit
And you are asked to tick the box to agree to their terms and conditions and then "Submit".
I wasa bit concerned as there is no mention of the "Direct October 2012" anywhere?!?
I bottled out of it as i am unsure i have selected the right option for "Direct October 2012" - any advise ... have i selected the wrong option??
Thanks in advance0 -
SP DIRECT NSC is the Direct October 2012 tariff"Now to trolling as a concept. .... Personally, I've always found it a little sad that people choose to spend such a large proportion of their lives in this way but they do, and we have to deal with it." - MSE Forum Manager 6th July 20100

SP DIRECT NSC is the Direct October 2012 tariff
I just went through the options and have gone for it! Mainly because it is cheaper than my current tarrif ... so i am saving money immediately!
The screen says:
Thank you for your request to change your service. This will take up to three days to process.
Lets wait and see. Thanks to everybody for their help!0 -
Has everyone been formally notified of price increase ? I haven't.0

It seems the options available in your online account depend on your current tariff. I do not have the option to switch to either SP DIRECT NSC or OES 140

just received email from Scottish Power to say prices have gone up!!
Tariff: WWW Domestic Single Rate Premier Plus (No Standing Charge)
Electricity prices Current† New†
First 225kWh used each quarter (Before) 17.176p (After) 22.492p (31% increase)
All/Day remaining kWh (Before) 7.795p (After) 10.216p (31% increase)
Tariff: WWW Premier Plus (No Standing Charge)
Gas prices Current† New†
First 670kWh used each quarter (Before) 4.968p (After) 7.541p (52% increase)
All/Day remaining kWh (Before) 2.581p (After) 3.457p (34% increase)
I thought it was only going up 10% Electric and 19% Gas!!!!???
I'm on Online Energy Saver 11 tariff so not sure what this means to me as details above are not the same tarriff? I only joined up with them Nov 2010 because they were amongst the cheapest at that time.
Does anyone know if I'm tied to a contract?0
