MSE News: Scottish Power to hike energy prices
Comments
-
I just had a look.
ScottishPower - Direct October 2012
NORWEB region
Elec:
1st : 20.295 p /// 2nd : 9.254 p
Gas:
1st : 6.977 p /// 2nd : 2.633 p
The energyonline site is saying that this is cheaper than OES14? and also my existing OES13 !
This is strange!?!0 -
Do you know what's the REAL shame?
They way that this thread is full of people (including myself) who have been screwed over by SP and yet there is zero coherent advice about what to do about it.
Reading this thread is like the internet equivalent to being in a room full of Turkeys, all gobbling on about their own subject, with ultimately nothing being achieved and we all still go to the slaughter.
I know my comments are probably going to incite a forum riot, that's not my intention, just merely to point out what I consider to be the truth.
I do not personally know the answer, nor does it seem anyone else here. Which makes for me; continued reading this thread like fitting wheels to a tomato..... Time consuming and pointless.
Just my opinion.
I agree.
The fact there isn't a clear move shows what a rubbish system the energy "market" is.0 -

It also amazes me how much it varies between regions.Your electricity is dearer but your gas is cheaper. What on earth makes the prices so different? Yes for me too it is the best tariff at present. If we only knew how long it will be around we could make a better decision, however i think most of their tariffs do stay current for a while and i cannot see people from other providers being tempted to move to it,at least not until their prices rise.0 -
So what do you propose we all do? There is plenty of advice on how to find a cheaper product with SP or any other provider. Also how to avoid the exit charge.Whatever company you are with, they are all allowed to put their prices up,much as we may hate it.The supermarkets are doing it all the time, and don't get me started on the petrol and diesel increases. It is a sign of the times and things may yet get a lot worse.
All we can do is try and economise because we cannot stop prices rising.
If you read what I said, you'll see that I too have nothing constructive to add, I honestly wish I did and I lament the fact that no one else seems to know either.0 -

For me, if Direct October 2012 is a new tarrif and it is cheaper than both OES13 and OES14.... then surely this is the one - at least for me!
These are my yearly consumption numbers:
Elec Yearly 4790KWH ..... Gas Yearly 16795KWH
NORWEB region
M30 9QU postcode
Surely this is wrong especially when bills are going up?!? How come mine are going down?!? Help! Cheers0 -
well im with EDF and OS7 - the incoming price increase (for OS7) means for me its more expensive than the fixed rate 2012 (with edf) so yes , switching to save money0

is it possible to change from OES13 to OES14 ?
Also, i read alot of people are going for a capped SP tarrif ... but this is significatly more than OES14 - why? .... are people thinking that SP will hike its prices even more??
I've gone for OES14 rather than the March 2013 deal.
If you're a SP customer, go to the "Manage My Payments" then "View My Direct Debit Forecast" then click "Detail". It gives a breakdown of a year's useage forecast. Mine shows about half my total electricity & gas bill is for gas at the secondary price (2.625p for Southern).
It's that secondary gas price that's way more on some of the other SP deals. A bird in the hand...0 -

very useful tip -cheers.
I am Currently forecasted to pay £1116. (OES13)
Comparisons:
With Direct Oct 2012 = £1056 (cheapest amongst eveybody)
With OES14 = £1074
With Capped June 2013 = £1254
EDF (cheapest capped) = £1127
My bills definitely go down with Direct Oct 2012 !?!0 -

Oct 2012 Looks good for you.
I probably should have looked harder, but I wonder which of the OES14 or the October 2012 is the more likely to go up or down in price before their term runs out...?0 -

if you are given notice everytime there is a price rise, and cancellation charges are waivered, isn't it easiest to just find the cheapest tariff with the same company and keep switching everytime?
obviously oes14 is cheap, but when that changes, surely during a certain period before the price rise, we can change/canc without any fee?
fixing is for the risk averse, and no one will ever know what the prices will be like for the future. only time will tell.
i think if you're to pay more (usually with fixing) you might as well go a long a possible.0
