MSE News: Scottish Power to hike energy prices

is it possible to change from OES13 to OES14 ?
Also, i read alot of people are going for a capped SP tarrif ... but this is significatly more than OES14 - why? .... are people thinking that SP will hike its prices even more??
Yes, should be possible.
I can't see how you do it online- you may need to call them
Regarding the capped rate, I think people are following the crowd/Martin, ... but I like you think the premium is too high
(it may not be so high for others)"Now to trolling as a concept. .... Personally, I've always found it a little sad that people choose to spend such a large proportion of their lives in this way but they do, and we have to deal with it." - MSE Forum Manager 6th July 20100 -

I agree with your last paragraph there.
It seems all the advice you read is to go for a fixed/cap tariff - Energy companies will be loving this as they are generally more expensive than the standard tariff which most people are on.
It's almost as if people are panicking to grab fixed/capped tariffs for fear they are going to end. (Energy companies pick up on this and start stating the tariffs are of a limited availability, just to help push those people on the fence on to those tariffs.)
I'm beginning to look at it as if more and more people go on fixed/capped tariffs, the extra money the energy suppliers make on these tariffs will help protect any increases on the online discounted tariffs.0 -
the other point I have is ... if the prices do not take effect until 1st August, then why are people switching to different SP tarrifs now ?
Why not maximise the low tarrifs they are on and switch over when we approach 1st Aug ?
Surely its more cost effective?
Personally, moving from OES13 to OES14 near the end of July seems the best option?? I can't help think ... what am i missing here?!?
Cheers0 -
No idea, saaya2020, you appear to have come to the same conclusion as me.
For those taking the capped/fixed rates, I understand, as they may disappear, but for the variable rates, who knows? (Again, following the crowd perhaps?)
It is possible, I suppose, that they may pull OES14, but if they do I'll take Direct 2012 which they have only just launched."Now to trolling as a concept. .... Yes,i too would prefer to wait till nearer the time .But they say the direct12 has limited availabilty, and i have no idea whether they are telling the truth or just frightening us into jumping now.
As i said before ,i fixed until feb this year and when it came to an end discovered that prices were actually still cheaper.,well the electric was,in my area. And the oes 13 was cheaper for the electric than the oes 12,but not the gas.
No wonder it is so hard to decide, with so many variatons, but i am determined not to rush into a decision.I haven't even got an email yet,i wonder what order they are sending them out, alphabetically perhaps?0 -

Do u have a link to SP direct 12 ?
Would like to compare the tarrifs for this one against OES14.
OES14:
Elecricity: 1st 17.92p // 2nd 10.248p
Gas : 1st 6.43p // 2nd 2.756p
Norweb area.

http://www.energyhelpline.com/fri/fri/Domesticenergy/Domestic/TariffDetails?GasTariff=441915&ElecTariff=441887&RegionCode=10
direct 2012 for seeboard region
BUT using a carlisle postcode (council offices) - seems you cant get it (not on energy helpline or uswitch) so i think its not available to you0 -
Do you know what's the REAL shame?
They way that this thread is full of people (including myself) who have been screwed over by SP and yet there is zero coherent advice about what to do about it.
Reading this thread is like the internet equivalent to being in a room full of Turkeys, all gobbling on about their own subject, with ultimately nothing being achieved and we all still go to the slaughter.
I know my comments are probably going to incite a forum riot, that's not my intention, just merely to point out what I consider to be the truth.
I do not personally know the answer, nor does it seem anyone else here. Which makes for me; continued reading this thread like fitting wheels to a tomato..... Time consuming and pointless.
Just my opinion.0 -

So what do you propose we all do? There is plenty of advice on how to find a cheaper product with SP or any other provider. Also how to avoid the exit charge.Whatever company you are with, they are all allowed to put their prices up,much as we may hate it.The supermarkets are doing it all the time, and don't get me started on the petrol and diesel increases. It is a sign of the times and things may yet get a lot worse.
All we can do is try and economise because we cannot stop prices rising.0
