MSE News: Scottish Power to hike energy prices

That may well happen, but then hopefully they will have OES16 and/or Direct February 2013 which we can move to (with an early exit fee waiver!) and keep the low prices
Staying with OES12 is not an option for me, and I guess many others - it is now hugely uncompetitive
Oh i agree, and the only thing in oes 12's favour is that the discounted rate did stay at a good level from the beginning until all the prices went up,so hopefully the same will hapen with the direct 12.
Like a lot of people we all finished the "fix till end feb" and jumped to the oes 12.However by the end of feb they had brought out the oes 13 and the electricity was cheaper than 12 and cheaper than the fixed rate had been.So sometimes it does make you question the point of fixing.
After a lot of deliberating i willl more than likely go with the direct 12.They are stating on the website that there are limited places but of course they will say that, the sooner everyone transfers to it the sooner they can rake in more money rather than everyone waiting till the end of July.
I am watching this space closely! What a brilliant way of finding out everyone's thoughts and plans, and their experiences too.
A HUGE thanks Martin.0 -

Having not had boiler care before i have no idea of what monthly we would look at paying, we do have directline house insurance and i think they did do some kind of homecare at one point mmmmmm not sure what to do really :0(
How long do we have to decide before we miss the boat on fixed deals do you think? Martin seems pretty sure we should do immediatley on the radio and not even wait a day or two?
IMHO boiler care is a bit of a red herring. Do they offer to service your boiler each year for no cost? That is worth about £60 per year if you get it done privately (in my experience). Do they offer to undertake minor repairs for free? If so, you can be sure that there will be a long list of exclusions, and you might end up paying. And if you do pay, the pricing will be uncompetitive because they know you are unlikley to look around for the cheapest quote. Or do they simply promise just to respond to your caIls within a certain time if the bolier breaks down? If so, again there will be a get out clause which allows them to miss the deadline during busy periods (eg in cold weather). If your boiler is more than 10 years old you will be put under pressure to change it - possibly they will suggest that spare parts for your old boiler are hard to come by. I think you are better off finding a reliable registered gas fitter locally, and getting your bolier serviced each summer, when they are probabaly less busy.0 -
I`m away from home `til Friday and by then I expect I will have the email.
One thing`s for certain, staying on OES 12 is NOT an option meaning a 38.5% increase for me.
Direct Oct 2012 may seem OK but it still leaves you open to any increase at any time from these sharks.
I`m inclined to go for a capped/fixed eventually but to get the benefit of OES12 for as long as possible.
I was with Ebico a while ago but they are at the mercy of SSE who dictate their prices and have yet to make a move.
Read somewhere another one of the big 6 is about to announce a big increase any day now.
As we know on here, when they say a 10/19% rise in reality it`s more like a 40%.
See you Friday.0 -
Put your massive SH credit in a high-rate savings account when you switch, and use that to pay for any boiler work that might be necessary (an annual service for around £75 by a local independent RGI will greatly reduce the possibility of an unscheduled call out).
Don't choose your energy tariffs on the basis of supposed freebies offered, be they energy monitors , Nectar points or dubious CH services. If you must have such a policy, buy it locally and independently. No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
I just wanted to check, I am right in thining that if we existing customers apply for a change to our tariff within 15 working days they won't charge the exit fee?
I can't find the details of the 2014 tariff, does anyone have a link to the PDF?0 -
I haven't yet received a price increase notification email, but the information for the changes to my product (online saver 11) are clearly available online.
Does anyone know if I can take this as notification and declare my refusal to SP and sign up with someone else?
It seems odd that we have been told in the media and also quite clearly on their website but have to wait to get a personalised email that could be weeks away.
Has anyone WITHOUT an email initiated a change, and if so do you know if that is sufficient to avoid the early penalty?
Thanks.0 -
Recieved my email from SP this morning. Regarding leaving says this :-
"If you don't think these prices are right for you, please contact us and we will be happy to discuss your options with you. You are also free to end your agreement by changing your supplier*."
"*If you notify us that you wish to cancel your agreement before 1st August 2011 and we receive a request for your supply from another supplier within 15 working days, we will not apply the price increase or the cancellation fee for your product. If you have an outstanding debt, we may object to your supply leaving us, but we will give you time to pay the debt and leave us without incurring the increased prices"
As previous said on this thread, I moved to the Capped 2013 tariff in the middle of last week. Bills for the old Tariff (OES12) have been made up and from what I've seen (online bill) there's no charge been made regarding exit fees.0 -

I'm doing exactly the same Rupert Bear. It'll cost me about £10/month more with Ovo, but sticking with Scottish Power the increase would be £20/month.0 -
I am on OLES 13. Only joined in April. Not received any mails from SP yet. Am i impacted by this hike? Cheers0

YES!
I am on OLES13 and my Electricity Primary Units are going up by 21.79% and my Gas Primary Units by 22.65%
I also joined OLES13 in April and I am now in the process of moving to a different SP tariff - one that isn't going up. Because I'm staying with SP there is no Exit Fee - and I'm doing the change online.0
