I agree that the "ScottishPower Direct October 2012" tariff seems very good value at the moment, but isn't that only because the amounts being quoted are 1% below the pre August 2011 standard monthly direct debit prices which we know will be going up on 1st August, as they have already published the increased August 2011 standard monthly direct debit prices on their site.

Am I right, or have I missed something?

It's a brand new tariff. The prices will not increase on 01 August. (it's comparable to OES14 which also is not increasing on 01 August)

In other words, those on the "ScottishPower Direct October 2012" tariff before 1st August will find that their prices go up on 1st August.

    This is correct, isn't it?

    Err... no.

Use a comparison site to find out. You'll need to do it twice, once for E7 and once for non E7 - but at almost 40% night usage don't be surprised if E7 is cheapest.

Also be aware that SP will require you to pay almost £50 to change to a single rate meter - not all suppliers will ask for this as they will supply from a dual rate meter, but that will restrict your choice of supplier, and hence possibly the best rates.

Edit: just did a comparison for you on EHL. Looks like you can save almost £50 by staying on E7.
e.g. non E7 gives best price as £849 with EDF and then £854 with SP Direct October 2012
E7 will only cost you £804 with SP Direct October 2012 or £806 with SP OES 14 (this is based on a conservative 35% night usage - you use almost 40% so expect even lower prices :))

    Thank you Premier.

    Thanks Premier.

But, given that the slashPDFslashDomesticStandardPricesv1.pdf document on the SP website clearly shows the increased standard monthly direct debit prices from 1st August 2011, and the fact that the "Scottish Power Direct October 2012" prices are guaranteed to be 1% below standard monthly direct debit prices until 30th September 2012, how is my logic flawed in thinking that therefore, the prices of the "Scottish Power Direct October 2012" tariff will go up on 1st August 2011?

Anything in particular you wanted to know?
All the new tariffs are on the SP website (and I presume all the comparison sites by now), as are the terms. :)
It appears some people have already got their emails, which would indicate any variation in the terms (assuming you agree to them)

My question in regards to the October 2012 tariif i believe has been answered in that it is not affected by the Aug increase.
Can i swap to this tariff from my current OES12, as i can't see it available when i go to switch online, which makes me think could this be for new customers only?
I haven't recieved my email from SP about the price changes (checked on the SP website too), yet it appears some SP customers have. Is there going to be different terms dependant to what tariff you are on i,e in regards to the waiver of cancellation fee if you decide to swap supplier?

    Thanks

The thread has been here since Tuesday, just thought the rep would have liked to have posted on here, as he has posted elsewhere on the site since then.

It's flawed because its a new tariff. All the prices on the SP website now reflect the prices applicable from 01 August

The 1% discount is just the guarantree that applies to the product. i.e. it will never be more than 1% less than standard prices (A similar agreement applies to OES 14) but it can be less ... as it is.
(It is not that the tariff is guaranteed to be exactly 1% less than standard prices as you suggest.)

See also the press release of the price increases that suggests what a good deal the Direct October 2012 tariff is:

Direct October 2012 is certainly for existing customers - as an existing customer you apply for it online. It should come up as an option. It does for me and I am on OES 12 currently.

If not, call them when they are open and ask to transfer to it :)

So same tariff as me, but still the October 2012 doesn't show as an option when i click the link to 'change service'. I choose all types and get 5 options, Online Energy Capped Rate, Online Energy Capped Rate (NSC), Discounted Energy Online NSC, Online Energy - Standard, and Online Energy - Standard (NSC).

I sent SP a message yesterday about it, so will wait their reply.

    Cheers

I`ve just logged in to my account and clicked on "change my service" and the Direct October 2012 is NOT an option.

Also I notice that you are currently, like me, on the OES12 tariff and just wondered what you intend to do

For me i'm think that switching to the October 2012 tariff will suit me with cancellation charge waivered.
I'm hoping as SP have introduced such high price rises now, that it will be 12 months+ before another rise, and if they do this sooner i can reconsider my options then in looking to switch tariff/supplier.
For the region i'm in and the consumption i use, October 2012 is certainly the cheapest short-term deal.
