Just worked out my annual usage for both fuels from the tariff I`m on now SEO12 to the new prices on 1st Aug and it`s an increase of 38.5%.

Switching to capped June 3013 would be an increase of 31.5%.

    Inflation is about 5%.

... You normally only benefit from having E7 if you have night storge heaters....

It varies. E7 can typically pay from as little as 20% overnight usage, but can sometimes need to be 50%+. We use 25% overnight (and have gas central heating), which bearing in mind 7/24 is about 29% is not unrealistic.

With some SP tariffs it actually pays to be on E7 even with no overnight usage as their day rates are sometimes cheaper than a single rate (for certain regions and tariffs) ;)

I'm confused after going through all of this thread.

I'm on Online Energy Saver 10 which states that I would have to pay £50 to leave before October.

Did someone in this thread say that if you leave quiclky now you wont need to pay this?

If not I wonder whether it is still worth paying this to get out of the last 3 more expensive months for the average small home?

  • Do you have gas central heating? If so why are you on an Economy 7 tariff. You normally only benefit from having E7 if you have night storge heaters.

Can you post your annual consumption (in kWh's) and someone will be able to tell you if it's worth having E7.

    Good Question!

    Annual Consumption
    Gas - 12356 KwH
    Elec Low - 1531 KwH
    Elec Normal - 2435 KwH
    Elec Total - 3966 KwH

Is it worth me switching away from E7?

Use a comparison site to find out. You'll need to do it twice, once for E7 and once for non E7 - but at almost 40% night usage don't be surprised if E7 is cheapest.

Also be aware that SP will require you to pay almost £50 to change to a single rate meter - not all suppliers will ask for this as they will supply from a dual rate meter, but that will restrict your choice of supplier, and hence possibly the best rates.

Edit: just did a comparison for you on EHL. Looks like you can save almost £50 by staying on E7.
e.g. non E7 gives best price as £849 with EDF and then £854 with SP Direct October 2012
E7 will only cost you £804 with SP Direct October 2012 or £806 with SP OES 14 (this is based on a conservative 35% night usage - you use almost 40% so expect even lower prices :))

I find it strange why this person hasn't posted here to answer our questions on SP, in relation to tariffs, and cancellations fees.
In their signature they state '...MSE has given permission for me to post in response to queries about the company, so that I can help solve issues....' :o

They often do this, probably to attract new customers who are looking via the comparison sites.I have been considering this,as the rates are reasonable. The trouble is that they are only guaranteed at 1% less than the standard tariff. So what is to stop them putting them up any time within the next few weeks/months and because they only guarantee the 1% less they will probably charge an exit fee to leave as the prices will not be going up,just the discounted rate coming down!

They get us all ways. However i am thinking of taking the risk, but don't know how long the prices will stay at the current rate, and would prefer to keep on with the good rate at the moment until nearer 1st August.

Has anyone enquired as to this tariff yet,and got any answers?

I agree that the "ScottishPower Direct October 2012" tariff seems very good value at the moment, but isn't that only because the amounts being quoted are 1% below the pre August 2011 standard monthly direct debit prices which we know will be going up on 1st August, as they have already published the increased August 2011 standard monthly direct debit prices on their site.

Am I right, or have I missed something?

He normally works typical office hours, and is certainly not here all those hours either. Never have known him to post at the weekends ;)

Anything in particular you wanted to know?
All the new tariffs are on the SP website (and I presume all the comparison sites by now), as are the terms. :)
It appears some people have already got their emails, which would indicate any variation in the terms (assuming you agree to them)

In other words, those on the "ScottishPower Direct October 2012" tariff before 1st August will find that their prices go up on 1st August.

    This is correct, isn't it?
