  • Hi all, i have been receiving calls in the middle of the night (4am ish) everynight on my business line which i have diverted to a mobile from 01159350012 when i answer it is just silent, when i try to call it back it just rings and rings. the line is through talk talk and they say they know nothing about it.
any ideas on how to stop it as it is costing me a small fortune being diverted to a mobile and leaving a blank message everytime.
    any help is greatly appreciated.

Do you know the number that is calling? Dial 1471 to get it after a call. I suggest you report them (and TalkTalk for being unhelpful. If a line is routed through them, they DO know about it) to at least: your own service provider eg BTs Nuisance Calls, (0800 411 422), Ofcom (020 7981 3040) and the Telephone Preference Service, ( 0845 0700707). (note, the TPS have a separate department for silent calls, so say you are getting bothered by both manned and silent calls.) and any other official organisations you can think of. Use both online forms and telephone to report to all organisations. BBC Watchdog is next ! That threat is a good deterrant! Something to be aware of, is that the Telephone Preference Services registration has a limited period. You must re-register every 2 or so years. It is well worth it, and only takes a short call to the number above. Every time I get a "spam" call, I report the number to the TPS, and it usually stops within a few days. bobdisk

I don't know what people think of this idea?

When we register with TPS we usually register under:
    "residential". (default)

But would it be better to register our phone number under:
"Limited company: (Including organisations such as Hospitals, Schools, Government Departments and other Corporate subscribers)"

I personally believe it would offer better protection. I can't see the telemarketing cold/silent callers being allowed to annoy that group!

Don't you believe it! I work in a GP surgery and so far this month I've been offered double glazing and won a free holiday! (again)

Oh and loan companies asking if I am more than £££ in debt -well the NHS has rather a lot of debt so I'm tempted to take them up on their offer:D

I quit a job in telesales 6 weeks ago. the 'system' they used was also going through a phone book. And if you are signed up to the TPS you are not safe from the company I worked for as they don't use TPS! I left after 3 weeks (not sure how I survived that long) as I found them Immoral, Unethical and Illegal. the sales pitch was the biggest lie ever! I don't mind telesales calls, cos I might want what they are selling but when they just don't stop it is annoying! I have also been getting loads of silent calls lately. I will be signing up to Silent CallGuard

There is no such thing as "not using" TPS. If they claim that, they are breaking the law. Every company must abide by the rules, they just can't pick and choose. As you have left the company it might be a good idea to report them to the Information Commissioner.

I think the poster already knows that, hence the "as I found them Immoral, Unethical and Illegal". I think their point is that the TPS is not a physical protection merely a bureaucratic one. I've had a few companies phone that I've had to point out their illegal actions and reported them to the ICO. The fact it's illegal unfortunately is not the same as them not capable of carrying out the calls.

Jigsaw is owned by Blue chip as you know and blue chip is owned by Cobra
i applied for a job and got it, but i turned it down when i read this on the internet!!!!
Cobra owns talk talk, any many huge companys in the world, however the set up marketing companies for them that do the cold calling over the phone an face to face. these reports tells you off the company and how they treat their own employees!!!!

Cobra Group Deceptive, Liars and Untrustworthy Sales Organisation

A lot of you have written about your experiences in Cobra over the years. It is remarkable how alike they all are; the same curious deception, the same happy beginning and horrible ending, one might even think there is something in what they say!.............. Having heard some pretty nasty things about people being verbally abused and even threatened by people in Cobra for daring to speak out against them, I wish to keep my identity a secret. I will not use any real names of FRs or my owner, I will say that I worked for a company
affiliated with Cobra for between 3 and 18 months between January 2003 and December 2005 in an office in England, I will not even state which division I was in. ..........Recruitment is the food for Cobra offices...... To begin with, their adverts are very appealing, and seem to tick every box. Please note that Cobra's target audience is young people. Now also take into account what job hunting is like for a young person; fun job - no future, easy job - no money, great future - entering at low level position, great job, great opportunity, good money - need LOADS of experience........ Some owners and FRs would happily tell the most outrageous lies at this point. One good one was that if there had been more than one ob that day, any that had run off were said to have been ‘sent home' leaving the one who stayed thinking they must have done well to be asked to stick around. Another absolute whopper told by some owners was to tell up to five obs that there was only one position available. It could leave an ob feeling special and important about being the only one who did not do a runner on the observation day (but could backfire almost comically if three obs all made it back, leaving the owner to say they made room for three because he/she could not decide between them).................work think it is fantastic working there, especially as you feel a part of something. The problem is not that being in Cobra is torture, it is that they drum a lot of false hope into you, so you are excited about a day you fervently believe, nay KNOW will come, when in fact it almost certainly will not. Sometimes a harsh reality check, while sobering, can be good for you, but this does not exist in Cobra............... The decline in Cobra leaves many FRs staying against all odds. One FR in particular from my office stands out; he never rang the bell, ever. He also never stopped talking about what he would do when he was an owner, how rich he would be and how he would look back at the times when he made £20 a week and laugh all the way to the bank. But yet he was always asking to borrow money, and even begged me once to buy him a sandwich because he had not eaten in two days. Many times I saw him at the local Sainsbury's with a bottle of beer in hand because it was 'all I can afford'. He was gaunt and looked undernourished and was eventually evicted for not paying his rent, and slept in a bus shelter towards the end of his time on Cobra. But he would not leave.........My life immediately after Cobra is a depressingly familiar story; bad debt, back rent and council tax to pay, direct debits being rejected and admitting to my friends and family how stupid I had been. I ended up surviving thanks to my parents bailing me out and a friend who was kind enough to let me sleep on his couch until I got a place sorted out. I worked in a job I hated because it was the first job available and I desperately needed money......

if you want to read fully go to the above website you read the full horror and also an other 21 like this.... hence the horrible sales calls!!!!

Although I sympathise with your situation (the same thing happened to me at XLN telecom) I think you should get your facts right, Talk Talk is NOT owned by Cobra, nor is Blue Chip.

Although I may be biased, I feel that some of the posts are simply from naive people who like to moan. Sales People get alot of abuse and although I agree there are some organisations out there who harrass and take advantage, I would not work for one. Considering this website is 'money saving expert' it amazes me that the majority of the people on here wont actually listen when someone is trying to help you save money, especially when we are in the middle of a Recession!

I understand that silent phone calls is annoying, I myself have recieved them, but considering the amount of people in the country there are, only a small minority of people have recieved them, and every company in the world that uses computers will have a technical error occasionally!
  • OMG Tom who just signed up to say that. You are seriously taking the mick matey! Why should we accept their tactics ESPECIALLY in times of a recession?

I'm getting these guys calling everyday now and ALWAYS tick boxes to NOT be contacted. I'm signed up to TPS and have been for years. I have no idea where they got my number from but they don't listen to the fact I'm not one bit interested in the 'Identity Fraud' protection they are offering me. I'm not an idiot and won't be getting some COLD CALLING company to protect my identity.

As you can tell I'm absolutely FUMIMG I'm getting these calls and am further surprised the calls come through as unlisted. They must be calling from an IP phone system that means I can't identify it from an international call. These guys are getting clever but I swear I'll blast they're eardrum off next call.. tbc!!
