    i just called the number back......so i dialled 01158507616

Dead easy to figure out who has called isnt it.....

Here's the quote from the answerphone:

"hi you were called today by jigsaw on behalf of talk talk from the carphone warehouse. we are sorry to have missed you. there is nothing to worry about and we will endeavour to call you back later. goodbye."
  • Hello I have just come across this forum, I currently work at this company Jigsaw we are a fully above board buisness that work on behalf of blue chip companys that are very well known ie AIG sponsers of Man united football club and talk talk The car phone warehouse and other top leading insurance companys, we do our best and have the leading technolgy to try and prevent nuisence calls and would act upon any complaints, and we also work along the guidelines of the tps service and when we recieve data it may be that when the data is sent to us customers have not registered with the tps at that point and by the time we contact a customer the tps is activated so therefore when I make a call to a customer who is on the tps, as a sales advisor if i am informed by the customer that they are now with the tps I cannot continue with the call and it is reported and taken of our system. As a mother of two I find working for this company a joy to work and they are very flexible for working mothers I find it a shame that a few people can not take a few seconds to understand that when I am working I am just trying to earn a living to look after my family and it is no fault of my own how the computer system works and I have many many satisfied customers with my service over the phone and the product. But I do understand that maybe sometimes there is faults in the system and a small hand full of customers maybe repetedly called and it can be very annoying I have had the trouble myself but from indian call centre that are not above board so it give us a bad name.
oh and i must also add that the reason for our call is in to relation to something you have or brought for example new mother s who recieve a bounty pack from the hospital when there child is born also recieve a call from us to let them know that along with there pack they have 2 months free personal accident cover to take advantage of there is no obligation after these 2 months it is just so people can have a read of the legal document whilst being full protected during the two months and decide for themselves if its the protection the need for there family and perhaps compare if they already have one at our cost. if you want any more help I am going to let the MD know when I am next in work about this forum so they can persue the complaints.

It is a criminal offence to make eccessive silent calls whether the victim is on the tps or not.
The problem is the call center industry is effectively unpoliced by ofcom.
    NOC News & Update

Ofcom generates sound and fury over silent calls
    12 December 2006
The furore follows from the Information Commissioners Office ( ICO ) serving Enforcement Notices against five companies for making unsolicited direct marketing calls to individuals without their consent. Failure to comply with the Notices is a criminal offence and the ICO is likely to take further action to uphold peoples privacy rights, including prosecution, unless the companies comply with the Notices.
    ................................
    ..............................
The action follows complaints from individuals received by the ICO earlier this year. ICO has also investigated Car Phone Warehouse and Talk Talk because of similar complaints. They are to meet ICO on Friday 8 December to discuss the complaints and provide further assurances about compliance in the future. Further enforcement action has not been ruled out.
  • Although everyone has a right to earn a living, your call is a sales call intended to sell something. You can pretend that it is a survey, a courtesy call, you've won a free holiday, all you like, but it is a sales call.

I have yet to meet anyone who bought a phone so that sales people could pester them all day long trying to flog something that they don't want.

The TPS exists because people find sales calls annoying, silent or not, they are all nuisance calls to me. If people want to buy something, they go shopping, they don't need a salesperson initiating that shopping decision.

So, your chosen career, might be family friendly, but it annoys a lot of people, so that is why you probably get flack and abuse on the phone sometimes, because you are one of a long list of people interrupting peoples day, when they don't want you to.
Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time?

Speaking as a potential customer or "person". I find it intrusive for anyone to ring my phone and ask me if I would be interested in there products. If I was even slightly interested in anything, I would phone them.

I dont see many Shop assistants, knocking on my door asking me if I was aware that Asda or Tesco have a BOGOF offer.

And in respect, if a companies product is so Hot off the mark, they feel desperate enough to call my number to sell it to me. Then it cant be all that good.

As for sparing a few minutes of my time, listening to what a Telesales caller wants to offer, Thats MY prescious time they are wasting, I never asked them to call me up, hence I dont want them to call me. Now thats a shame!

    No sympathy for telesales reps.

You should have sympathy for telesales reps. If you don't want the call, simply tell the caller to remove you from the database or join TPS.

Don't take it out on people who are simply trying to earn a living. I have no idea whether Jigsaw is reputable or not. However where companies get the contact from is from the person being contacted! Most people don't read the small print when they sign contracts ( any contract to purchase or to enter a competition) and so they do not choose to opt out of receiving marketing information. Hence you may get phone calls. The only companies that actually just go through a phone book are double glazing and conservatory companies.

I receive no unwanted marketing calls at all except from Space kitchens who are too idle or stupid to remove me from their database after being asked, and to be honest it's my own fault as once they kept calling I should have complained formally but I was too lazy...

Interesting, could you please show me where this research is.

"small print" May be these "blue chip" companies could use larger print.
  • They are trying to earn a living at other peoples expense, annoying 200 people to get 1 sale, often from gullible people.

I've been on TPS for years, it doesn't stop all the calls, and it doesn't stop rude telesales reps, or ones who lie through their teeth when challenged about their true purpose.

I do read the small print, but I shouldn't have to opt out, and I shouldn't have to complain to stop it.

NTL can block numbers which are withheld. I had seven or eight calls in one day (having a child at school you need to answer the phone "just in case") & was so furious I rang NTL & told them thay they were my provider do something about it. So a block was put on anon calls - friends & family who are ex directory have a number they dial before mine in order to get through. This cut down the calls to the odd one here & there. I also registered with TPS a long while ago.
    NEVER ASSUME!
