    Hi all,

Did anyone successfully stop these criminals from calling your TPS registed number?

My parents are getting these calls every week from these people, and being elderly are feeling harassed by these sales calls.

They are getting all 3 types - Silent, Automated and Talk. I made out a report to the telephone preference service http://www.tpsonline.org.uk/ but just got back a pass-the-buck letter telling me to contact the governments information commissioner website (which is only for the silent calls I believe and also very unhelpful - mainly full of government legislation.)

Just phoned BT and they wont help either!

"No we cant block this number unless you takeout additional BT services."

They are recommend us to report to the TPS - so around we go...

I'm very concerned this is affecting the health of my parents.

    Peter.

    Albertross. you are so right.
I have an elderly aunt who keeps getting these silent calls, She is registered with Tps for both junk call and now silent calls. Their site also carries an add for "Call Blocker" a plug in device which supposedly stops everything except genuine calls it cost's £50. has anyone out there ever used one ? if so are they any good.

I have been a victim of nusance calls from 01158507616. It is just one number belonging to an infamous company called Jigaw Insurance, who have offices in Nottingham and Birmingham. These calls can have an operative, who will try to sell products on behalf of Carphone Warehouse, Sterling Insurance or other insurance related products, or the line will more likely be silent. I have been plagued by them almost every day since July. I understand from various forums that I am by no means a heavy sufferer of their attentions.
It seems they use a computer to dial a block of numbers all at once, the first victim to pick up gets the operative, the others get silence. This way they dial more numbers than operatives, and are more sure to get an answer. (See their website) When I got an operative, it was obvious they had ALL my details,(name full address, including postcode, and a lot of other information). I demanded a supervisor when I could get a word in edgeways(!) I asked her where did they get my name and ALL details from, but was told that "it was a company that sold peoples information for telemarketing purposes" and that was all she would say. Am I correct in thinking that if I want that information, they must by law give it to me?? I told her that her company must remove my details from their database and not to call me again. They have continued to call every day. I tried calling them on their numbers given below, but got nowhere, surprise surprise!
I am exdirectory, and registered with the Telephone Preference Service. I suggest as many victims as possible do what I have done, and report them to at least: your own service provider eg BTs Nuisance Calls, (0800 411 422), Ofcom (
020 7981 3040) and the Telephone Preference Service, ( 0845 0700707). (note, the TPS have a separate department for silent calls, so say you are getting bothered by both manned and silent calls.) and any other official organisations you can think of. Use both online forms and telephone to report to all organisations. BBC Watchdog is next ! Something to be aware of, is that the Telephone Preference Services registration has a limited period. You must re-register every 5 years. It is well worth it, and only takes a short call to the number above.
Jigsaws addresses are below, if anyone is interested. I will see if I get any results from letters.

i applied for a job and got it, but i turned it down when i read this on the internet!!!!
Cobra owns talk talk, any many huge companys in the world, however the set up marketing companies for them that do the cold calling over the phone an face to face. these reports tells you off the company and how they treat their own employees!!!!

Cobra Group Deceptive, Liars and Untrustworthy Sales Organisation

A lot of you have written about your experiences in Cobra over the years. It is remarkable how alike they all are; the same curious deception, the same happy beginning and horrible ending, one might even think there is something in what they say!.............. Having heard some pretty nasty things about people being verbally abused and even threatened by people in Cobra for daring to speak out against them, I wish to keep my identity a secret. I will not use any real names of FRs or my owner, I will say that I worked for a company
affiliated with Cobra for between 3 and 18 months between January 2003 and December 2005 in an office in England, I will not even state which division I was in. ..........Recruitment is the food for Cobra offices...... To begin with, their adverts are very appealing, and seem to tick every box. Please note that Cobra's target audience is young people. Now also take into account what job hunting is like for a young person; fun job - no future, easy job - no money, great future - entering at low level position, great job, great opportunity, good money - need LOADS of experience........ Some owners and FRs would happily tell the most outrageous lies at this point. One good one was that if there had been more than one ob that day, any that had run off were said to have been ‘sent home' leaving the one who stayed thinking they must have done well to be asked to stick around. Another absolute whopper told by some owners was to tell up to five obs that there was only one position available. It could leave an ob feeling special and important about being the only one who did not do a runner on the observation day (but could backfire almost comically if three obs all made it back, leaving the owner to say they made room for three because he/she could not decide between them).................work think it is fantastic working there, especially as you feel a part of something. The problem is not that being in Cobra is torture, it is that they drum a lot of false hope into you, so you are excited about a day you fervently believe, nay KNOW will come, when in fact it almost certainly will not. Sometimes a harsh reality check, while sobering, can be good for you, but this does not exist in Cobra............... The decline in Cobra leaves many FRs staying against all odds. One FR in particular from my office stands out; he never rang the bell, ever. He also never stopped talking about what he would do when he was an owner, how rich he would be and how he would look back at the times when he made £20 a week and laugh all the way to the bank. But yet he was always asking to borrow money, and even begged me once to buy him a sandwich because he had not eaten in two days. Many times I saw him at the local Sainsbury's with a bottle of beer in hand because it was 'all I can afford'. He was gaunt and looked undernourished and was eventually evicted for not paying his rent, and slept in a bus shelter towards the end of his time on Cobra. But he would not leave.........My life immediately after Cobra is a depressingly familiar story; bad debt, back rent and council tax to pay, direct debits being rejected and admitting to my friends and family how stupid I had been. I ended up surviving thanks to my parents bailing me out and a friend who was kind enough to let me sleep on his couch until I got a place sorted out. I worked in a job I hated because it was the first job available and I desperately needed money......

if you want to read fully go to the above website you read the full horror and also an other 21 like this.... hence the horrible sales calls!!!!

If you are receiving nuisance calls from sales companies, then I strongly suggest you report them to OFCOM (the telephone watchdog) using the direct link below (it's quick, easy & free to do). I have not had a dodgy call for months:T
Also you can register with the TPS (telephone preference service) here...
ALSO you can register with silent call guard for free here...

I get so many with held numbers and even international numbers who call me trying to sell me loans etc that i dont want. Ive got no number to block them, and they wont tell me their phone number or business name.
They speak with very clear asian accents, and they will not take no for an answer or stop callin when ive asked them.

I just generally hang up on them now. but its 2-3 times a day. And i too have been woken up by them.
  • Hi, I also work at Jigsaw as a customer service assistant.
I'm sorry to hear that people have been receiving nuisance calls simply give me a call on the customer service number 01158507600 with your landline telephone number and I will be happy to remove your number from our dialler to prevent you from recieving future calls.
  • I'm registered with TPS, but my wife still gets calls from Jigsaw insurance, despite he telling them on numerous occaisions to stop calling her.

I've tried it as well. But to no avail.

The last call I tried the methods used in Dom Jolly's 'Complainers' series. I tried to get the caller to reply to my joke. 'What do you call a man with no shins & ankles?' - Tony (toe knee, get it?)

He hung up straight away and it made me laugh too.

    Hmmmmmmm!

I received loads of calls from Jigsaw. I sent them about 5 emails requesting they stop and the 6th email had the desired effect because I stated that I would charge them £100 per call whether answered by me or not.

This company is UNBELIEVABLE. I have 8 TPS registered complaints about nuisance calls from Jigsaw and was only thinking the other day what happened to them. Well, after a 6 month break, they're at it again. Tonight I received a call ensuring me I'm a very valuable consumer and all they want to do is help me?

Well, here goes another complaint to the TPS. #9.
