Yodel delivery services - AVOID AT ALL COSTS!

Strangest Yodel delivery ever today. Now instead of a reliable and regular service from Ipswich (depot shut) parcels come out from Colchester. Same driver last few times who was great.
Today it was a different driver, in a beat-up car, with a very elderly woman in the passenger seat.
I also got quizzed as to my ID when I answered the door- i've had parcels from Amazon before with no questions asked so not a retailer thing.0 -
My first experience of Yodel isn't a good one.
New mobile phone was to be delivered on the 1st of this month, I was in work on that day and couldn't get the day off but my gf was in all day (along with her son and my eldest son).
On checking the tracking number about 2:30pm I saw that the parcel had been delivered but signed for in my name, I rung the gf to check and she said no parcel had been received! I immediately rang O2 (who was sending the phone) and after a bit of checking (including them ringing Yodel) O2 said that Yodel told them the parcel had been delivered to the correct address and a woman had signed for it. Rang the gf back and she insisted that the parcel had not been delivered so after ringing O2 back they said to take it further they needed an example of my signature (which I sent via fax from work).
Anyhoo, got home after work and sure enough - no parcel. Come 7pm and there is a knock at the door, it's a neighbour from a few doors away (actually quite a few doors away as there is a car park and an entire terrace between our houses) and in his hands is my parcel, he says it was on his doormat when he got in and it couldn't have been signed for by a woman as he lives alone and has been at work all day.
I then rang O2 back to say I had my phone but the way they got it to me left a lot to be desired they said they would contact Yodel, then had a call from Yodel themselves (somewhere in Manchester) to ask could they cancel the investigation into my lost parcel, I told them no, please investigate it fully. Including why the delivery person decided to sign for it themselves and post it to the wrong goddamn house!
I got my parcel but it was a fair bit of hassle.0 -

Sounds like a new recruit following procedure to the letter. Quite comforting really, when you think of the stories we hear on here, about parcels being given to strangers. The greater danger, for most of us, lies not in setting our aim too high and falling short; but in setting our aim too low and achieving our mark0 -
Improvements at last? I was amazed to receive a timed delivery text from them the other day. Here's why:
Press Release 13 April:
http://www.yodel.co.uk/about/read-all-about-us/yodel-unveils-new-service-proposition.aspx
In an interview with Radio 4's 'You and Yours' their CEO talked of double digit increases in charges to retailers to pay for the improvements.
Yodel unveils new service proposition in response to changing conditions in the online delivery market and demand for increased flexibility
Following the enormous growth in online shopping, Yodel, the UK's largest parcel delivery company, is to make alterations to its service to meet consumer service demands and match the ever increasing need for flexibility.
The changes being adopted will see Yodel move to a six day a week service, increasing to seven days during December, with the removal of premium charges for weekend deliveries, and standard pricing across the UK, including highlands and islands.
Clients will also enjoy enhanced service level commitments with Yodel investing in a programme of extended training, including earlier engagement of seasonal temporary staff to ensure peak performance and improved customer service.
Shoppers will receive email and SMS delivery updates as standard, including time slot advice and be able to track their parcel using a simplified, customer-friendly online service. Any additional queries can be answered by making a free call to Yodel's customer services, as the current charges are dropped.0 -
Sadly that won't stop those drivers who can't be bothered to deliver and falsely claim you were out.
As I predicted before Xmas, their CEO Smith put out a press release from behind his drawbridge after the Xmas non-delivery fiasco and claimed that most of the problem was due to customers giving incorrect addresses or not being in when a delivery was scheduled.
I figure he is more than happy with his delivery drivers lying because it allows him to put out rebuttals based on incorrect "facts".0 -
Yodel are shockingly poor. I have had 3 bad experiences with them in quick succession.
1) Amazon return - They failed to turn up to collect the items which I was returning to Amazon for a refund
2) Very.co.uk return - They turned up but failed to read the additional instructions with the booking instructing the driver to collect the parcel from the back porch. They left a calling card saying nobody was in to collect the item and to rearrange collection.
Bit lazy, get off your bum and go to the post office?0 -
Only a fool would not follow the paid-for returns procedure recommended by their vendor.
The problem is not with the customer's laziness but in yodel's breach of contract.
As for amazon, they ask for post office?0 -
As for amazon, they ask for post office?
With Amazon it depends on the reason for the return.
If something is going back due to a fault or it was damaged when delivered, they normally give 2 options.
You can opt to take it to a post office, but they may not cover the full return cost, or you can choose a courier return and all of the cost for this is covered.0 -

Sadly, it won't mean that those drivers will get paid any more than they do already. Why should they do more work for the same pay?
Are you always in when a driver calls? Is everyone else always in when a driver calls? The greater danger, for most of us, lies not in setting our aim too high and falling short; but in setting our aim too low and achieving our mark0
