I know someone with a plate like XF10 NAX spaced X F10NA X who did get pulled when the car was only a few months old. Someone else had loads of black and yellow/white screw covers changing the letters, again pulled but he may have been grassed by the local businessman who had the correct plate he was trying to immitate. It does happen with incorrectly spaced [STRIKE]penis replacement[/STRIKE] personalised plates.

How will anyone 100% know without removing the plate. It is perfectly legal to have it marked on the reverse,

Yes, it's quite legal to have it on the reverse. Not sure I see your point. Undoing two screws too difficult?
If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.

Clearly the point he was making that if the police were using that as an excuse for it not being legal how would they know.........
Everyones opinion is the most important.....no wonder nothing is ever agreed on.

Was the Policeman who issued the ticket wearing his hat....?

If not then the ticket doesn't count....... ;)

Drive to the police station, explain what Halfords (who are licenced to print the plates) told you, and ask in a friendly manner what exactly is wrong with the plate, as at the moment you don't seem to have any way to make it right.

This would mean driving with the plates that the police believe are illegal.
Once you've got a ticket for it, do you get a certain timescale to fix the problem before getting another ticket? Or if they catch you again will you get another fine?
Obviously if the plates are legal then this is fine, but if there is something that Halfords have missed then this could prove costly. That's why I'm suggesting they phone up to find out what the problem is. But if you get a grace period then going there would be sensible as they could then have a look at the plates.

I suggested driving so that another police officer could look at, and even measure the plate, and would hopefully find no fault and rip up the ticket...

All I'm saying is that if it was me, I'd want to know what the perceived problem was so that I can make sure myself that it isn't a real problem before driving to the police station.
