Might have confused their ANPR system, so they stopped you...... Then depending on your attitude they'd either let you go or cause you as much hassle as they possibly can.
And on the above note..... My previous manager got stopped for minor speeding offence and because he thinks he's "all that", he stood there talking down to the Police (big mistake), he ended up having his car searched, checked the tyre's etc too. They had him there at the roadside for near 45 minutes and he also had to present his paperwork at the local Police station. Very comical to see him brought back down to earth lol“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

LOL love those kind of a people. I was with a mate who got pulled over for a brake light out, the copper was really good just told him he had a brake light out and should sort it out ASAP. That was it the copper was going to back to his car when we mate quite loudly said "f***ing pigs got nothing better to with their time", anyway the copper hearing this decided to speak to him again about his attitude but this time he was going to give the car a once over. No tax, 2 bald tyres and a small amount of weed found I have never laughed so hard in all my life. If he had just kept his mouth shut he would have been on his way instead the car got impounded for no tax LOL.
As to the original question its hard to know if it is illegal or not without a picture the spacing maybe off, the font maybe not the correct one. If your adamant its legal then you have nothing to worry about, rad your ticket on how to dispute it and follow that procedure.Everyones opinion is the most important.....no wonder nothing is ever agreed on.0 -
The average plod would not know a legal or illegal plate if one smacked them in the face. What exactly did they say is wrong with the plate ?
I had a customer come back with a plate they had been pulled for as having the groups too far apart. I measured them and they were in fact 1/2 mm too close together !! Some plates just look wrong because of the last and first digit of the groups.0 -
what colour was the policemans hair because it sounds like a fair cop to me0

Hintza, do you really think I would put an existing plate on here........?!!!! And the question is not about insurance or I would have asked that wouldn't I ?
Some people really do waste forum time.0 -
Molerat, I was told the spacing was to close together, but have checked with Halfords who made the plate up and they said it was legal as well, so really not sure what to do.0

Some people really do waste forum time.
Some really do, so far the only question you seem to have asked could have been easily solved if you had turned the ticket over and read it. Surely it took longer to take the time to load this forum and type the question out then it would have been to just read the ticket!!Everyones opinion is the most important.....no wonder nothing is ever agreed on.0 -
pitkin2020 - If it was that clear I would have done so, but it isn't hence the question, but thanks for all of your very useful help !!!!!!
As for the time it takes its my time so I will do with it as I please.

Do the police take photos?
What's to stop the OP turning up at court with a correct number plate?
I'd phone the police station, OP. See what they say.
[Your local station, that is, not 999!]0 -

It won't make any odds the OP is adamant there is nothing wrong with his plate he even got told by Halfords its legal............If he replaces the plate and goes to court with the new plate he maybe in even more trouble as they may have footage if the police car has a camera in it!!!
OP you have asked what you can do as you believe they are right, as you have already been told, all you can do is appeal which the procedure for that is on the back of the ticket it really doesn't get any more simple. You have had a lot of good advice, all of which is not what you want hear i'm guessing. Not sure what you actually want but you have two options, agree and pay. Dispute and go to court.
If you are 100% sure your plates are legal and there is nothing wrong with them, take photos (i would suggest from a few angles to cover all bases) take those photos when summoned to court and watch the case get thrown out.!!!Everyones opinion is the most important.....no wonder nothing is ever agreed on.0
