The other thing they will pull you on is if the screew covers are not the same colour as the part of the number plate it is covering i.e. using a black cover on the yellow part of the plate. People do this to change numbers/letters to something different. Saw one the other day that had used a yellow screw cover to make an 8 look like a 0 by putting the screw threw the centre line on the 8.

Without a picture of the actual number plate, it's impossible for anyone here to be tell if it's legal or not.

The question wasn't whether its legal or not....!!!

The question was what can I do to appeal as I know it IS legal. Have even asked another policeman if he can see anything wrong with them and he couldn't.

Are you sure you weren't done for no insurance? This vehicle doesn't appear to exist.

Actually, in your original post you asked two questions.
Could it be that most answers so far are answering...

As you know it is a legal plate, there is no need to do anything.

Do not pay any fixed penalty.

Go to court, plead not guilty, and as the plate is legal, watch the case get thown out.

p.s. this other policeman you asked, didn't you think to ask him what you could do about it?
