No I'm not chief bridesmaid any more, I'm just a guest which I'm glad about as right now I feel like a whale! I'm going to decorate some cutesy envelopes and do that challenge, it's needed big time! Xxx
Life is too short not to love what you do.

I think if I wasn't that close to her i'd tell her now so she has time to find someone else and you could be saving all that money each month rather than going to a wedding of someone you don't know all that well??

It is a tough decision to make though so good luck!

Well, looks like the decision has kind of been made for me!!! I ended up sending her a perfectly nice text on Monday, saying thank you for the lovely invitation, looks really good etc, then went on to say I had been looking at my budgets again and it was looking a little less likely I'd be able to save up enough in time but never fear I'm still working on it.
I had a response yesterday that completely shocked me, she said that she wanted to thank me for not having to spend £200 on my bridesmaid dress and that we're all working to tight budgets and that the wedding has enabled her to see who her real friends are and she wouldn't expect to be treated like that from someone who had the honour of being part of the bridal party...
Well... I was just stunned! I sent a very long text back trying to explain that I thought my text may have come across in the wrong way (bearing in mind I wrote pretty much exactly what is above), and re-iterating why my money situation is so bad, due to needing to move and pay off debts etc, and that I'm sorry she took it the wrong way.
Needless to say, I've not had a response and her text back kind of cemented it for me that it's probably not the right thing to go. I don't want to spend all that money and then not enjoy a holiday, and probably not get to do what I want etc anyway, which really would feel like a waste.
Hmm... so that went very sour! xx
I used the cash and envelope method for the first few months then I kind of fell off the wagon a bit. Your posts have just reminded me how good it was! And i will be back on that for July! I had one envelope for petrol, grocery, entertainment, pocket money, mobiles (we are all on payg so when credit runs out DS & DH come to me and i distribute money from this lol),clothes & if i know we are going out in the month I put aside a fund for that too ...I don't know why I stopped it tbh, It works far better than taking your cash card with you everywhere! You can't overspend if you only have cash & not plastic ;)

    DFW xx

I agree - the envelope method has generally worked very well for me and I'm not going to be changed it any time soon...glad you're going to give it another try! :T xx

    You're not a whale!!! Silly bean... :p
Glad you're on the envelope wagon as well, I find it brilliant :D xx

My thoughts exactly unfortunately! She's always been very abrasive and sometimes abrupt to the point of rude, but it was such an over-reaction! Stunned me yesterday afternoon, I just couldn't believe it! Hey ho, it means I'll be able to save a nice buffer for when my car goes horribly wrong, or some other equally disastrous event! Or maybe just for a holiday... on my own!!! :rotfl:

Hope all is well with you Emz xx

What a horrid person - you've done well to get out of that one - I find weddings often turn women into bridezillas and tbh you really do find out who your real friends are when it comes to it!

Come to SA with us instead - I'll be piggy in the middle with the BF and his best friend (as I call him ex wife) so I need someone to hang out with :D xxx
Life is too short not to love what you do.
  • wow that is rude! I'd have sent her a text back but doubt it would have been as polite as yours :rotfl:

p.s how are you doing with your weight challenge, I am really struggling to lose my last stone, so am trying baby steps of half a stone at a time and i just can't shift the damned lbs lol. Are you following a particular diet?? xx

Haha, yes I was quite restrained it must be said! I showed my mum and she doesn't usually swear, but she looked at me and went "Oh my God, what a !!!!!!!!" haha

Weight is a taboo subject! Just kidding, mine's not going well at all. Basically I'm using my old tried and tested method of counting every calorie, I've done it for years. (Free app here)

Unfortunately, whilst I know the calorific content of everything that passes my lips, and exactly where I go wrong, I can't seem to stop eating...which is hindering the loss I feel! :rotfl: Me and rdchick and Sparkerly were going to be debt and weight loss buddies - you can join us if you like?

I was going to ask rdchick about this separately, but I was almost thinking we could start our own challenge and have little goals to follow or something... what do you guys think? xxx

Sounds like a plan - what sort of thing were you thinking?!

We could have our own little diary too! xxx
