I am the world's most pathetic person, seriously. I had an awful day yesterday so after only 2 days and 22 hours of not smoking, I smoked.
I stopped in a services on the way back from Worcester, and I bought 10 cigs for £3.89 (which would usually cost me £3.40 by the way, just to add insult to injury!) and I smoked 3 driving back.
Then I went to my friends house for a wind down before going back up to mum and dad's and we smoked the remaining 7 between us.
So I smoked 6.5 cigs. And cost myself £3.89 in the process.
I'm too ashamed to go onto the Stop Smoking thread to admit this, and I've even had a cig today - a rollie that my friend gave me. I have no intention of buying any and I don't want to smoke.
I just feel so stressed and so out of control - in every aspect of my life - my home life, my finances, my weight (which is spiralling into cetacean territory - not helped my dodgy knee, which I finally have a physio appt for after only 13 weeks of waiting on the NHS), my smoking, my completely unmanagable workload.
I keep feeling like something's gotta give and I keep crying and snapping at people and generally being crap.
I just don't know what to do.

Don't really know what to say Elsie, but felt I should say something. I have never smoked, so can only imagine how hard it is to give it up.
But I will say this - beating yourself up about it won't do you any good. It won't change what happened and will just make you feel worse.
Is there a different approach that you can take to giving up smoking?
Take care
Emz xx0 -
Thanks Emz, appreciate your kind words - you are absolutely right, I was having a particularly low moment yesterday when I wrote that. Thanks for taking the time to comment x

I'll update properly later on by updating this thread, but just wanted to say am feeling a little better today. I'm still worried as I'm at my bosses wedding reception tomorrow night and out for a meal for my friends birthday on saturday night, both of which I would usually smoke at, even if I'm not smoking day to day. I feel like I'll cave in on those occasions which makes me go what's the point, I might as well have sunday as my quit day and then take it seriously from there. I'm not going out again for a while after that, certainly not again this month, so it will give me a sporting chance. I'm not going to rush out and buy cigs now or anything, but I think in my head that I'll call Sunday the stopping day.

Thanks JD, feeling much better today - yesterday was down in the dumps in the morning and felt better towards the afternoon. Just a case of letting things get to me, I have these little phases once in a while. Hey ho, I shall have wine tonight and tomorrow  and hopefully a good weekend overall, which can only serve to improve my mood :j Have a great weekend! xx

1442:
Okay, I am officially stopping smoking after my night out on Saturday for my friend's birthday. I won't have a stop smoking pot as I literally cannot afford it. Stopping is enough reward and I have enough pots and things going on as it is!
Remaining for this month (in terms of budgets I start my weeks on a Friday):
- Petrol money - £45 a week (I use every drop of this - curses of living miles away from everything)
- Food money - £19 for w/c 10 June, £23 for w/c 17 June and £23 for w/c 24 June
- £20 for the wedding reception tonight, only plan to have a couple of drinks
- £50 for my friends brithday meal out tomorrow night - this includes the meal, the drinks and the taxis - just about do-able!
- I also have my pound a day for the £365 challenge set aside but I do literally like to put a physical pound in my pig every day so I don't count that as in my budget!
And that's it! Although I've just had an email from Body Shop who said they are refunding my £7 for the present that never turned up - technically of course I am now short of part of a present for my friend whose birthday is in July, I was trying to split the cost over June and July...wow that went well... not! Will try not to spend it!
Fairly tight then for the rest of the month but very do-able as long as I'm disciplined and don't smoke and don't go mad on food and stuff! Can't go out again for rest of the month of course after this weekend, but I have loads of OU work to catch up on so that's really a very good thing! Reaslised this morning I am extremely behind and have an assignment due in 2.5 weeks  Have tried to book a couple of days leave to get some extra study time in but as they're late notice may not get approved
I lost 1 pound this week. No idea how!
Also finally have my physio appointment come through for my knee - it's on Tuesday at 1pm. Only waited about 13 weeks!!! Bloody NHS, but I refused to go private...why should I?!!?
So hopefully walking can start again once they've fixed it!

Technically Sunday... whatever!!! Home, had a great night at the do, lots of dancing and wine (a fair proportion of it free!), so good times! £7 going in 365 challenge catch up, and £2.10 went in Terramundi (silvers).
Change of plans for tomorrow night instead of meal in town, having few drinks locally then all cooking at hers and having fun there! Should be good...as spent £15 of that tonight so have £35 left (actually £7 of the £15 is going in my pot, but either way...)
Night all *yawn*

Great idea to stop smoking after your night out. Why set yourself up to fail? At least that way you give yourself the best chance to succeed. You could always calculate how much money you save by not smoking without physically putting it away. Might encourage you by how much you aren't spending?
Take care and have a good weekend.
Emz xx0 -
Thanks Emz, glad you agree that was the right way to go with the non smoking! I have a dilemma now, annoyingly! I'm left with some cigs after last night - about 10 to be precise, which is worth like £3.50! What a waste of money. Now, all my friends have quit too, so I haven't got anyone to give them to (or sell them to, even for a pound!). Now, I could throw them away, but that REALLY is just throwing money away, literally! Or I can smoke them all today and start my proper quitting tomorrow. I don't really want to smoke them today, however just knowing they are there is making me want to smoke even though I wanted today to be my quit day. I'm not sure what to do! What do you think? As for totting up how much I'm saving, I have an NHS app on my desktops at home and work that tell me exactly, which is really good!

1144:
Going for coffee later which will be nice. I really need to do a nice easy menu plan for this week and do some batch cooking. Can't motivate myself unfortunately!!! More later!
2024: Had lovely afternoon at my friend's house, did our nails and she gave me the £12 she owed me from Friday which I've stashed away (in my food budget pot in case it needs boosting later in the month!). Did my food shop earlier - £12.99, not bad not bad!!! Also I smoked all outstanding cigs with my friend and we've now officially quit! I feel very positive about this, yay! Now have to go cook as it's a bit late!

Hey Elsie, I've never smoked so this is just coming from watching my DH quitting (he's only been quit a few weeks this time) but when ever he gives up he only does well if he isn't already stressed by lots of other factors in his life, i.e debt, feeling down etc...I know you can't afford it but perhaps now is not the time to go cold turkey if you know what i mean, and perhaps you could try patches or the gum they sell (DH had success with the gum last time- and we bought it in the £1 shop!!!) everytime he would normally reach for a ciggy when stressed he would have a bit of gum (on the low dose)
I hope you manage to do it, it really will improve your health etc (lol can you imagine how much i nagged DH
)
Oh and i'm with you on the batch cooking! I have loads of stuff in the freezer and cupboards screaming at me to make a meal with and I've no motivation to do any of it (oops!)
Have a great sunday hun
