How long did it take you to conceive after stopping the pill?

Hi Guys,

I am TTC and this is my first month of being off the pill (Cilest) after being on it for roughly 5/6 years.

I really hope that it doesn't take me too long to conceive as both me and the OH want a baby so badly :)

I would like to hear your stories if possible on if you were on the pill how long did it take for you to fall pregnant and what symptoms you had?

Even though this is the first month I have been off of it (due on either tomorrow or Friday) I find that I am constantly looking for the tiniest signs that I may be pregnant!

If you are in the same boat as me-then wish you good luck and lots of baby dust. :D

Hi there. I was on that pill too!
da 3 months, ds2 2 months, dd ...well, urm i was still on it! lol

Best advice...STOP looking for symptoms!! If you start looking you will convince yourself you have them :)

But seeing as you have asked ds1 i just KNEW hadnt even misse a period at this point, had no sickness, no sore boobs etc the only way i knew i was preg was every week my belly grew lol

ds2 i walked past a 'greasy spoon cafe' (the same one i have walked past everyday for 6 years!) and was sick (on the street - nice!)was sick every day til the day he was born! Also had sore boobs metal taste in my mouth

dd i just knew - even tho i was on the pill and hadnt missed. Had no preg symptoms til i was about 4 months when i got really sore boobs!

    Good luck!!

I'm a bloke - and don't know too much about these things - but I thought you were supposed to wait a certain period (6 months?) after you stopped taking the pill before trying? Am I just making that up?

also, dont be too suprised if your cycles are irregular. I know many who have taken 3 -4 months for their cycles to get back to normal after stopping the pill.

Nope - you have completely made that up lol I was on chemo when we decided we wanted number 2 if treatment went well, and only had to have ceased chemo 12 weeks before we could TTC!

Wow! Thanks everyone for your replies, this is really good for me as it keeps my hopes up, I was dreading it taking a long time and it still might, but have to look to the positive side :)

*Brians Daughter-your so right, I need to stop looking for symptoms, but one thing I will say is my belly is very bloated-but we will see.

    Thanks everyone again x

Some recommend you wait until you have had a normal period but it's only for dating the pregnancy more reliably (and if you have a scan in the first 12 weeks that is quite accurate)

    With me, dd1 about 6 weeks till I found out, dd2 a month, ds1 a month, ds2 I didn't stop

I was on the pill for 11 years. Came off for one month before trying as it is easier to date conception accurately if you have a true period. Then got pregnant first month of trying. I 'knew' just over a week before period was due, mainly due to really sore b()()bs!

No I don't think you are completely making it up.
I have heard advice that it is a good idea to wait a couple of months to allow the hormones from the pill to get out of your system and to allow periods to regulate etc..
Having said that it's just a good idea - same as taking folic acid prior to conception and eating healthily etc...

For me I concieved within the first month of stopping the pill (sadly miscarried that baby) but then concieved again 4 weeks later - this was age 29.

I fell pregnant unexpectedly while still on the mini pill aged 36 (but again sadly miscarried)

Never went back on the pill after that and concieved the baby I'm carrying now first try at the age of 38.

    Good luck OP x
