Hi, I just wanted to give feedback in case anyone is having trouble with Asda Tech Trade in or is thinking of using them.
I posted off to them an iPhone 4, approx 3-4weeks ago. I registered it all online first then I followed all of the instructions on the Freepost envelope (collected in Asda) and posted the item off to them at the Post Office. I got proof of postage as Asda recommended on their envelope. After a week I started getting emails saying they had still not recieved my phone. I was very worried so phoned them. They looked into it and said it appeared to be lost in the post. I emailed them a photo of the Proof of postage reciept (as they requested). After a week they had still not got back to me. I phoned again and asked to query it, they never returned my call as they said the would. I phoned again today and finally got a brilliant lady called Maria (who I highly recommend). She promised to phone me back after she had referred this to her superiors. She did just that, when she phoned back an hour later they had agreed that Royal Mail had confirmed it was lost, and Asda were happy with my proof of postage and therefore agreed to honour my £116! I am so relieved and I will be finally happy once my cheque arrives in 7-10days.
Out of the worst senario possible I've finally had the best outcome.0 -
Hmm, I can only hope for the same outcome. Posted my Galaxy SII off on 30/9 after they offered the best quote from anyone reputable (£103.10).
By 14/10 they still hadn't got it so I called them and they said send in your proof of posting, which I did, and they'd pursue a claim with Royal Mail.
Still nothing by today (5/11) so I called them again and they said they'd ask their claims manager but it could take up to 30 days to hear back from Royal Mail.
I basically said at this point I don't really see why I have to wait for RM to honour your claim, as I did everything right, got proof of posting etc.
At this point the lady on the phone said their service isn't insured and I should have sent it recorded, i.e. it is basically my own fault!
So I'm now hoping once the claim does come through from RM they honour it. It doesn't say anywhere obvious on their website that you should send recorded, as I pointed out I used the service they gave me, which is 'tracked' (i.e. there is a tracking number) but apparently not recorded - I didn't know there was a difference!
So now just hoping I do eventually get the money they promised me
Will try to remember to update.0 -
Ordered my jiffy bag on 1st November for my old Galaxy S3, valued at £159.10.
Didn't get my new phone for a while, so didn't get round to sending it until 11th November. They received it on 20th November, by which time the value on their site had dropped right down to £130.
Got an email to say they received it on 21st, then on the 22nd I got an email saying they were sending me £159.10 as originally valued!
Speedy, efficient, good value.

Hi
I've just used Asda to recycle my iPhone 4S and have no complaints whatsoever. I was quoted £111 for my phone, but I was concerned that a slight chip at the top of the screen would result in a reduction in the offer. I sent it special delivery on 9/4/14, received an email to confirm receipt on 10/4/14 and then today 11/4/14 another email to confirm they will be sending me a bacs payment within 3 days for £111.
Quick service, I would recommend Asda0 -
Just wanted to add my review as I'm currently having problems with Asda tech trade! Chose them as they were offering one of the best prices for my iPhone 4s (£151) requested an envelop from them which arrived just before the bank holiday weekend, received both a text and email from them reminding me to send in phone.
Sent phone in Tuesday (21/04) sent special delivery as wanted to make sure package didn't get lost in post, well packaged in its original box to avoid damage! Got an email and text saying they had received it the next day. On Thursday (23/04) get text saying as iCloud wasn't properly removed they were dropping my price to £100!! Phoned them as I knew I definitely had removed it before sending and was advised to check my iCloud and make sure it was definitely off (which if was) and they would get it reassessed. This afternoon got an e-mail saying they were now only valuing the phone at £78 as it is faulty (cosmetically incomplete)!!!!
Raging as call centre was closed by the time I got home from work, phone was in excellent condition, it was always kept in a case, when I sent it in and there was no mention of cosmetic damage in first report so it was obviously not damaged in post. Will post an update once I get to speak to someone but get the feeling they are taking the mick, will be gutted if I get back a damaged phone as that could only have happened while they had it.They have had lots of good reviews so hoping this is a one off but wonder how many people just accept the lower quote to save the hassle.
****UPDATE******
Phoned Asda yesterday (28/04/14) and was told the rating of cosmetically incomplete could be because find my iphone is turned on but she would have to email to get the reasons behind that rating, she rejected the revised offer for me but said she'd put a hold on it being sent back to me until we found out exactly what the reason behind it was, she then promised i'd get an e-mail with this information. Today (29/04/14) no e-mail appeared so i phoned on my return from work, turns out it was because they claim find my iphone is turned on on device (it definately isn't) also turns out she hadn't put a hold on it being sent back anyway so its already on its way back, not in its box or with its charger as they don't send accessories back (its in the t+c's) they also don't guarantee its safe return so will wait and see if i actually get it back. Really disappointed in Asda's service and mystified as to how they get there ratings and work out there offers. Know that many people have used Asda with no problems but i have had a really bad experience and do not recommend.0 -
@joannedavidson80
every time i use these services i take photos of the phone from every angle, and a video (on the new handset) i also detail in the sending back details that i have recorded the state of the phone in photos, with time and date stamp + gps data.
i will be looking to use asda but will do the above. they cant argue with hard proof and meta data linked to the images taken.0 -
tried to use this company the produced a "revised offer" over £100 less than quote as they said phone not working - phone turned on and only had minor cosmetic damage as per their definition
when I questioned them said they would look into it relied eventually and said there was screen burn which not present when I posted it
Think they are relying on people not challenging them to get away with paying as little as possible

Total faff this was:
Traded in ipod touch 4th gen and a samsung galaxy ace. My ipod touch was rejected due to "cosmetics incomplete". They also wrote "unable to return" so we will recycle for you. Basically a big "F**k you" and we'll take your product.
DEFINITELY WOULD NOT RECOMMEND.0 -
I think all the positive posts on here may have been written by Asda themselves...
So I posted my iPhone 5 off in the provided envelope, packaged it all very well and sent it recorded delivery at my expense.
I received an email from Asda a couple of days later saying they had received the phone and would do some tests to make sure the phone was working. They originally quoted me £150 but then I received an email the day after saying that there was some 'screen damage' therefore they would only give me £40.80 for it!!! I phoned them to find out what had happened as when I sent the phone it was in near perfect condition, nothing wrong with the screen at all - certainly nothing to warrant knocking £110 off the value anyway! The lady told me that they found some 'slight discoloration' on the screen therefore they could not pay me full price. I know that there is absolutely nothing wrong at all with the screen whatsoever so I rejected the offer and told her that I will be expecting my phone sent back to me recorded delivery as they could at least have the decency to make sure it got back to me.
My advice is to stay away from these guys. They are an absolute waste of time and money :mad:0
