Just done a lidl shop and saved quite a bit.
Wine @£2.99 per bottle
Dooleys substitute @£5.99 (dooleys is £10.69) will let you know what they taste like
An fridge full of continental sausages, ( other 1/2s happy) free range eggs 77p for 6 ( having worked for farm animal welfare charity will not buy battery no matter how badly off)
Cat food that they actually love 66p for 1kg biscuits.
Dog biscuits 89p
Over all £43.69 which should last us a good week - Going to give Aldi a try next week as lidl's fruit and veg not that great but cheap.
Didnt manage the £20 budget however its because other 1/2 is on low carb diet however still £40 less than tesco
Quite enjoying this funnily enough.
Total Joint Debt £139k
Proud to be dealing with our debts:T0 -

I have been an Aldi convert for years - lived in Germany for a long time and it is a "normal" supermarket over there.
Not tried Lidl Or Netto (as there is not a local one) but can highly recommend
Aldi own brand
washing powder (I am allergic to almost everything except this)
cat food (the small trays of it) ours live it as a treat (normally they get biscuits as I hate cleaning the bowls!)
white chocolate with hazelnuts (OH loves it - I don't like chocolate!)
Stollen
Parma Ham/Schinken/Saucisson/other cooked Continental meats (I am veggie but OH is a European meat eater and thinks they are better than Sainsburys/Tesco's)
Mozzerella and other continental cheeses (especially the Brie and Camembert)
Cleaning products including wipes and washing up liquid
Olive oil
Star buy has to be wine - esp the Pinot Noir - think it is £2.99 a bottle and it is really drinkable (too drinkable!!!!!)
I bought some really good Bardolino, Barolo Soave and Eiswein there a few weeks ago too. Was about half to two thirds the prices I would expect to pay at the wine merchant - fanastic value and tastes great.
Have not been impressed with
the bread (stale and fuill of nasty chemicals, we normally make our own but it was desperation)
Fresh pasta (was with mushrooms and pecorino I think) it was foul - even OH who eats everything was not wild about it.
Fruit - I have had some poor fruit and veg experiences from Aldi so I use the greengrocers in town.
Pesto - it was really awful, too salty and no flavour.
Sun dried tomatos in olive oil - ditto.
In general they are fantastic!

all the recommendations are really helpful. looking to get more of my shopping from Lidls this week. I think the biggest saving we can make is on food shopping as we bought most of it from tescos before. And i'm going have to try some stollen:jDebt at lightbulb moment (Dec 06) £60,502

I'm a self confessed snob when it comes to where I buy my food shopping (probably why I owe so much money now!!!)
Anyway, I was recently forced to go into my local Lidl recently ( can't remember why) and was pleasantly suprised at the range of stock that they have. I must admit that I didn't get loads but I was pleased that my tuna/sweetcorn mix was only 99p for a large tub but my usual brand is £1.55 for a smaller tub!! I now go in there for my cleaning stuff and basics like milk etc. Only thing I didn't understand was that they don't have shopping baskets???
I hope to wean myself off the other supermarkets but it's sooooo hard!!!DFD Dec 2009 _party_

You'll get there, I did, and I was very much like you 7-8yrs ago,
Start now, keep with it, resist the temptation, and you'll never go back
Tell a lie - I did once - but after seeing the prices compared to what Im used to paying now, I walked straight back out again. Pat on the back for me!Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure0 -
Another great buy from Aldi is their 'Mendoza' argentinian red wine for £3.29. I've been drinking it for ages and thinking how good it was, then it was mentioned in a 'great wines for under £5' feature in Olive magazine. I just knew I could spot a good wine bargain - but it's good to have it confirmed!0

I would always knock Lidl but I think it's great. What surprises me it's always packed out and you always see the mercedes and bmw's pull up
thant is so true!!! I counted not one but 3 mercedes benz outside of my local aldi last week. Plus there were brand new bmws and audis , then of course my battered old mpv
I always have said, that people with money hate to part with it - they go to aldi and lidl cos its good value and good quality. I remember awhen aldi first opened a bloke witha really posh voice was buying all the booze for a dinner party there. I still cant believe that so many people dont shop there because its 'uncool'.
