I tend to shop at different places each week - Netto's good for branded stuff such as Kellogs cornflakes, Lidl and Aldi are both good for own brand stuff. Aldi in particular seems to sell some good quality food for a very reasonable price.

Morrisons I only go to occasionally, but they're good for BOGOFs.

January challange - sell 10 items. 0 down, 10 to go!
  • we're Lidl converts too, saved us a fortune, we've gone from £120 per week to £60 per week for a family of four & 3 cats.

Their food is really good, alot of stuff is even better than branded IMO & the fruit & veg at the moment is a great bargain & good quality too.

I prefer Lidl Malt Wheaties to shreddies - 72p for 500g.

They have closed our local Iceland, and replaced it with M&S Food - Very tempting and I must admit we have bought the odd thing - the other day they had fresh marinated chickens at half-price. Most days they are offering tasting samples, so I will walk in to the counter and 'try' their wares - yesterday it was cherry liqueur chocolates (like mon-cheri) and Belgian chocolates. Absolutely delicious - so much so that I had to try them twice
Managed to resist buying though. :T

I thought you lived near us for a moment! I see you don't, but we too lost our Iceland to M&S food and while it seems very popular, I've never yet bought anything there. I took one look at the stupid price for porridge - something around £1.40 when I can get Tesco value porridge oats for £1 less - and gave the kids a lecture on shopping instead.
I can do a big Iceland shop around every two months in another town and it's a treat for me. I'm sure M&S do some super food but I miss family-orientated and GM free Iceland.
We don't have a Lidl but we do have Netto - and that's rumoured to be due to close too :-( I shall really miss some of their lines.

No Netto here I'm afraid  I've never tried them - are they ok?

I think M&S must have bought a 'job lot' of Iceland Stores.

Just looked in the cupboard and there is a 200 gram bar of LIDL 'Coffee Cream' chocolate, which at 72p is one of THE nicest bars of chocolate you can buy anywhere. And I CAN NOT eat it because I have a bad tooth!
I think someone is being very cruel to me.

If you have a good local butcher - hang on to him - they are a disappearing breed - many have been 'forced out of business' by the supermarkets, who may not even be cheaper. Whilst there is absolutely nothing wrong with the meat you buy in the supermarket, NOTHING can beat a craftsman who knows his meat, knows when it is ready for sale, and cuts you exactly what you want.
I am NOT a butcher, by the way, but you have made me hungry.

I am fortunate to have a good local butcher and greengrocer locally. the meat is tender and they give advise on cuts of meat and best way to cook them. Picked up two chickens for four quid, and so much tastier than Tesco.
The local butcher and greengrocer ars well supported due to far superior produce on sale. A lot is not cheaper than Aldi,Lidl and netto but better quaility and supporting local produce. As Rog2 says our butchers know their craft. Our butcher seems to be doing thriving business, shop always busy and very helpful.
Am reminsing , bought back memories of Dewhurst butchers and MacFisheries. Are there still any branches about?
Really think i need to get out more.
