other things to look out for are frozen salmon,
We bought the 'Tuscany' Salmon - looks delicious, but will have to wait till Christmas.
I did try some of the Lidl Lambrusco at £1.25 a bottle, a couple of weeks ago, but when we got home I noticed that it is 4.5%  seemed to defeat the object somewhat - quite pleasant though.I am NOT, nor do I profess to be, a Qualified Debt Adviser. it's amazing what you can save by choosing your supermarkets. I used to do a Tesco home delivery shop and could easily spend close to £80 (only three of us!) and still run out of food a day later.
I now use Aldi, Lidl and Iceland and we eat a lot better. I probably spend about £50 per week now and that includes packed lunches for me. Even though I'm now being very OS, I do splash out and to our fab local butcher for fresh meat as a treat. bit extravagant but if you hardly ever eat it, it's good to eat well.
Just love this board!

If you have a good local butcher - hang on to him - they are a disappearing breed - many have been 'forced out of business' by the supermarkets, who may not even be cheaper. Whilst there is absolutely nothing wrong with the meat you buy in the supermarket, NOTHING can beat a craftsman who knows his meat, knows when it is ready for sale, and cuts you exactly what you want.
I am NOT a butcher, by the way, but you have made me hungry. :beer:I am NOT, nor do I profess to be, a Qualified Debt Adviser. I have made MANY mistakes and have OFTEN been the unwitting victim of the the shamefull tactics of the Financial Industry.

Lidl put a sign up on a plot of land just round the corner from my parents house about 3 years ago saying they were building a store there soon. The sign is still there but they still haven't started building it.
The next nearest Lidl is 8 miles away. Are they much better than Aldi?0 -
That happened to us, took them about 4 or 5 years to get planning permission to use the site.“A budget is telling your money where to go instead of wondering where it went.” - Dave Ramsey0

Because the established Supermarkets are worried stiff when Aldi/Lidl want to set up shop - they will find every possible argument to delay them.I am NOT, nor do I profess to be, a Qualified Debt Adviser. Hiya,
I too went to LIDL today. The £2.29 wine is called CRIANZA and it says CATALUNYA on the top of the label. There was also an Italian red for £2.49.
My weekly shop (family of 6) came in at £42 and I was particularly pleased with the tangerines (huge box for £1.49 - must be 2 kg at least), stollen, oilive oil, parmesan, beef mince, veg eg organic carrots, onions - all of it very good quality and cheap. Even branded things like Sunpat peanut butter and Lloyd Grossman pasta sauces are much cheaper than in Sainsbury's.
Alas it's too far for me to go regularly (normally walk to Sainsbury's) but if I get a chance to pop into one again I definitely will.Total debt: 1 January 2007 £[strike]49,387.79[/strike] 1 January 2012 £[STRIKE]19,312.85[/STRIKE] 1 August 2012 £11,517.620
