just discovered Lidl!

2nd weekly shop since LBM.
Been to lidl for most of it plus few bits in asda - spent £69. Ok so I know lots of you spent loads less than this but average spend pre LBM was min £100. Last week when I was being really careful I spent £85 (aldi and asda) and felt really mean all week cos the kids were moaning that there was no food and they were hungry. Felt so guilty. They don't know why we have suddenly cut back, they dont know that we've been overspending for years. I felt really down yesterday because to get debt free need to be careful like this for next five years.
This week have spent 30% less but more importantly have cupboards, fridge and freezer stuffed full of food so no more feeling guilty that Im not feeding the kids enough food;) Maybe I will be able to cope after all!
Anyway off to do some baking so kids have plenty to eat all week.
Debt at lightbulb moment (Dec 06) £60,502
Debt Jan 11 £18010
70% repaid
Debtfree date: December 2011
Proud to be dealing with our debts :D

We were confirmed 'Tesco-holics' a year ago and our average weekly shop was well in excess of £100.00
Now we shop selectively between LIDL, ALDI, Tesco and ASDA - our average weekly spend is down to around £45 (under £25 last week).
Because we are more selective, the quality of food that we eat has actually improved - LIDL and ALDI are great for the more 'continental' type of products, which, in the 'mainstream' supermarkets, are normally sold at a premium.
I can remember, a couple of years ago, we used to joke about LIDL and ALDI - Not any more - I am big enough to admit that I was totally wrong.
The only downside is that, last week, when I received my last 'Clubcard' statement, there were insufficient points to award me any vouchers this quarter. I can live with that.

Lidl was a bit too far to go for us, until this week when a new Lidl opened up on my route to the kids school. I think its great, Tesco is on the same road so I do a Tesco shop and a Lidl shop. Fruit and Veg half price in Lidl at the moment so seasonal veg is very cheap.

Just discovered Stollen, bought some a couple of weeks ago and we all loved it so getting that instead of Christmas cake this year. Also bought a red wine for £2.29 thinking it was probably vile but worth a try and its surprisingly drinkable!

They have closed our local Iceland, and replaced it with M&S Food - Very tempting and I must admit we have bought the odd thing - the other day they had fresh marinated chickens at half-price. Most days they are offering tasting samples, so I will walk in to the counter and 'try' their wares - yesterday it was cherry liqueur chocolates (like mon-cheri) and Belgian chocolates. Absolutely delicious - so much so that I had to try them twice
Managed to resist buying though. :T
