Years ago, when I lived in Birmingham, I would touch no other supermarket than Sainsbury's. Or Savacentre.
Then myself & my ex fell into debt, had no choice but to either starve or try the cheaper supermarkets.
We first tried Aldi, didn't like it. Then Lydl - Great, then Netto, even better.
We used to alternate shopping from store to store, but still came out laughing with more money in our pockets, more than what we would have had if we stayed at Sainsbury's.
That was about 7-8 yrs ago, and even now, we alternate our shopping from Netto to Tesco (value items). 2 weeks ago I did a shop in both Netto & Tesco, and spent £65, for a family of 4, incl animal food. That was 4 2weeks.
I can really sympathise with you guys ref debt, been there done that got the t-shirt scenario, allthough - I dont have much debt now, (nothing I cant handle anyway) and I still wont go back to the old ways of shopping somewhere expensive.
Why resort back to the old ways.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure0 -
Hi guys,
I have tried Lidl and found them to be ok for everything except breakfast cereal - however have not tried them now for a couple of years for this - can anyone advise what may be good?
Still Mr T slave at the mo as I don't want to go to too many stores as I will def spend more - I would prefer to do it all in one go.

Yes, there is also a much better choice of cereals at Lidl than there used to be. Just as well, as our teenagers go through loads of the stuff. The plain Wellness Flakes are a good substitute for Special K at £1.59 a pack.:T:j :TMFiT-T2 No.120|Challenge started 12.12.09|MFD 12.12.12 :j:T:j0

xmas tree chocolates - well we had to test the ones with missing strings!
cranberry sauce - huge jar for 98p really nice
complete dog food is much cheaper than bakers £3 instead of £5 - and from the speed the dog ate it it must be fine
looking forward to next week to see what else I can findDebt at lightbulb moment (Dec 06) £60,502

Lidl's soap powder is good stuff. They do 3 types, bio, non-bio and a colours one.
I also like Tesco value soap powder £1.49 for 3kg.Official DFW Nerd Club - Member no: 203.0 -

I have also been converted. Have over the last 10 years gone to Tesco and spent betweent £55.00 - £75.00. Got home and always thought what have I bought. About 1 year ago we started going into Lidl first then onto Tesco and todate still do the same. Went shopping last week, £29.00 in Lidl ( got a load full of stuff ) then went onto Tesco and spent £15.00. I would always knock Lidl but I think it's great. What surprises me it's always packed out and you always see the mercedes and bmw's pull up
Tesco and Morrisons are big greedy cats and it's only now realised it.
Happy shopping
He going to Lidls with me next week after seeing how good the stuff is and how cheap it wasDebt at lightbulb moment (Dec 06) £60,502
