Beautifully put, Murtle. One day, I sat down and worked out who I am, now, not me 20 years ago when I collected some of the crap, but who am I now - and who do I want to be. Then I worked out what things from me now, I wanted to take forward.
It's not an easy journey, but it can be fun!
I have a lot of stuff/rubbish (leaflets, tickets) from holidays etc. finally worked out it was a way of proving I had 'been there' which is daft:o
Then there is the scrapbook which someone will have to dump - no interest to anyone else and belongs to who I was a long time ago.
And all the old photos - again no interest to anyone else.0 -
with old photos, could you scan them in and then have them turned into a photobook? or buy a digital photo frame, so you can still display them, but they take up less space?know thyselfNid wy'n gofyn bywyd moethus...0

We used to keep brochures etc. from whenever we were on holiday, but now we buy a teaspoon for each holiday, they don't take up much room, it's the only "collection" of anything we have, and one of those days when we're old and have grandkids we'll get one of those really naff display cases and bore the little mites to tears with stories of where we took their Mum when she was their age....
well maybe not, we'll probably still be off on our hols adding to the teaspoon collection, but they definitely take up less room than a carrier bag full of brochure from everywhere we have been.:D
Aliasojo - wanted you to know you've inspired me to get rid of some stuff I've had sitting in an old chest of drawers in a cupboard - I had to empty it to get into our hot water tank ( another story:mad:) but I 'm going to ditch the drawers and have a little storage box on the floor of the cupboard instead - I'm only going to keep what will fit in the little box.Member of the first Mortgage Free in 3 challenge, no.19

My mother has the teaspoons. And thimbles: we started buying her thimbles when we were going back to places she'd already got the teaspoons from ...
However, I can report that I had an inspired idea for the NorthStar Horizon! DS1's friends were staying with us for a GameJam (ie they all get together and design a game in a weekend, for which they are given a theme). If DS1 took the NorthStar, they could all have a go at designing a game for it - no mouse, of course, but you used to be able to play Moon Landing, you'd enter values for your speed and course and see if you could land safely, bumpily, or die horribly! :rotfl: DS1 does remember playing this, to my surprise.
DH would NEVER miss it! :rotfl:Signature removed for peace of mind0 -
oh but other people buying us teaspoons is a definite no-no. Sheesh, bad enough having a bag full of our own teaspoons without other people adding to the pile of $h!t3 lol!
If people are daft enough to bring me back a present from their holidays I'd be hoping it was a T towel or something alcoholic.:DMember of the first Mortgage Free in 3 challenge, no.19

She did start off buying her own, but seemed happy for us to add to the collection. And she's not easy to buy for: no alcohol, and I'm not sure a tea towel would have gone down well either!Signature removed for peace of mind0

I wasn't having a dig at you, Savvy Sue, everyone is different.
I do the same when I'm buying presents for other people's kids - I try to get them something that's small in size so it doesn't take up too much room - I know how hard it it to keep the "stuff" kids get down to manageable proportions.Member of the first Mortgage Free in 3 challenge, no.19
