No. Use it as an accessory...let it fulfil its destiny. :) Let you be the kind of woman who turns up to view houses to rent with discerning attire that a letting agent has to trust.

Sorry if this sounds harsh but in a previous post you mentioned debt problems. On a straight choice between debt and handbags I didn't use I know which I'd rather have. Even if the amount you get will hardly make a dent it would still be something.

there's a couple of limited edition Radley bags on eBay - the 'up up & away' one which you're probably taking about (my friend has this one) and 'Radley-in-the-garden'.

The first one is Buy-it-now' for £85.00, the other one currently has 19 bids and is £102 with just under a day to go - one the same design is on for £249 but is BNWT.

I'd say that if that amount of money wouldn't make that much difference to your debt level (especially as your OH's salary will increase), I'd hang on to the bags - and use them and love them.

    USE THE DARN BAGS!!!!!!!!

When you spring your mortal coil they will go in a charity bag or to the dump..

using them will give you more pleasure than looking at them.. other people will admire their beauty and bring you more joy.

You should have nothing in your home without a purpose.. and that includes OH's, children and pets! :p.. and gathering dust is not a purpose! Use the poor neglected unloved bags.. make them happy and loved and fulfil their destiny!

I don't 'do' handbags so can't help with that side of things - I settle for carrier bags and random holdalls :D - however, when my children were little and collecting all sorts of [STRIKE]rubbish[/STRIKE] little precious things (which quite often were free toys from the cereal packet, stones picked up on walks and the like), I settled on the idea of buying each of them a smallish plastic crate with a lid which we called their 'special things boxes'.

Basically, if they could fit the item in their box and they could clip the lid on then they could keep the stuff - no problem. If they couldn't fit it in then they had to declutter enough to make the space. It's worked right through from toddlers to teens. They were in charge of the contents and space-making. I never commented on what (junk) was being hoarded/collected but it was a way of saying that it was ok for them to keep 'stuff' but within limits. Boxes like this have been easy to store and to move house with.

I wonder whether it would make sense to do a grown-up version of this ie buy a crate or two, or under the bed box(es) and limit yourself to using just that space for your happy stuff. It would be guilt free, accessible, enjoyable etc but within limits. If you want to buy something new and there isn't space then you need to address that first.

(I'd go with the use it and enjoy it to it's maximum idea though. :))

I figured I'd do the easy to get rid off stuff first. :D
That is the absolute best place to start:T It still achieves what needs to be done and helps you get more in the mood for the slightly tougher stuff as the sense of achievement kicks in.

I would suggest you consider using them for their purpose as handbags - I have 2 Radley handbags & an overnight bag.....the messenger gets regular use at weekends, the large one was bought by DH for my birthday and I use it every day, the cabin bag has been used a couple of times & will be used on holidays in the future.

They are expensive items, but they are all very good quality and will last you a long time, even if you swap & change from one to another to use them all fairly :)

Absolutely fair point. Doesn't sound harsh at all.

Our debt was only a problem when it looked like OH wasn't going to have a job. His wage is to increase substantially and the debt will be got rid off asap. I think we have some breathing time now and although we need to treat the debt with more respect and also put in place some safety nets, it's not as urgent an issue as it was.

Of course, if it was, then I'd have no choice, clearly I would need to sell whatever I could regardless of whether I 'liked' it or not. As it stands now though, we dont need to be quite as ruthless.

But you had a wake up call , he might not have had a job , and who knows what is around the corner ............debt is always a problem

There's nothing wrong with collecting nice things (or even horrid things!) but don't hoard them in the loft. If you love your Radley bags, why not display them? Just stick a picture pin in the wall and hang a bag on it, you could put them all over the house if OH agrees!

Radley bags tend to be quite small so even if you only have one spare wall in your bedroom, I guess there would be space to hang a few. I can't understand why people collect lovely things but don't look at them every day. I collect dolls (I bet you can't guess which ones, lol!) and they are proudly on display on several shelves in my bedroom. OH moaned a bit at first ("looks like a bloody kids bedroom") but I soon got him on board and now he buys me a new one every Christmas and has promised me a new set of shelves to display my goodies.

And yes, you should use them all, even if you don't "go out" anywhere special. A friend of mine is a Radley fan and they are the only designer bag that I actually recognise when I see one. Even a trip to the garage for petrol and a Twix is a special event when you're carrying your best handbag! And no matter how much debt you are in, you're still entitled to have something nice to keep. Why sell your treasures just to pay bank interest charges? If they make you feel good when you look at them, they are worth keeping. :)
