I'm in the same boat with EDF v6. I have had good service from EDF and would prefer to stay with them. Their letter explained that they would be switching me to their Standard tariff and when I checked the cost of this I realised that it was totally uncompetitive. I was disappointed that they appeared to have made no effort to suggest a better tariff to me and phoned them to discuss the options.
Their letter came at a time when I had been receiving phone calls from BG inviting me to switch to them and when I eventually checked their prices through Money Supermarket I found the BG v11 to indeed be the best offer available. The friendly CS adviser at EDF also confirmed this and apologised for not being able to offer me anything better. I therefore signed up with BG for v11 and this process has been going on for a few weeks now; BG are due to start supplying me in three weeks time.
With the news of likely big increases on the way I phoned BG and EDF yesterday (I have never had any delay in getting through to these companies) to ask for their advice as, like everyone else on this forum, I am not sure that I've made the right decision. I didn't realise that v11 was being pulled and having managed to secure that tariff seems very useful to me. I had also not realised that there was a penalty for leaving EDF v6 before 30 June of £50 for dual fuel. I phoned BG back to ask if it was possible to hold fire on the switch until early July in order to avoid this but found that by doing so I would loose the v11 tariff. However, BG suggested that if I contiue with the current switch they would reimburse me the full £50 penalty in 6 months time.
After weighing up the options I've accepted this as a good deal. I have no idea if, or how much, the likely increases will be for BG but I do have £30 coming for using the switching site, the £50 reimbursement from BG and a good saving by using their v11 tariff. From past experience I have found that every supplier will put up their prices by roughly the same amount and I am not convinced that using fixed tariffs makes that much difference over the long term.
Time will tell but I can't avoid increases and instead I'm looking at energy saving methods, like investing in LED lighting, as a way of reducing my future bills!0 -
I used to work for Edf and did for several years . This is how it is : the termination fee is applied if Edf receives a notification to change supplier from another company . This is not the transfer date but the date this request reaches Edf . In the biz they call them floh's It shouldn't be sent from another company until after the 12 day cooling off period .Got the same letter and would like to switch to BG with the 10k nectar points offer which expires soon.
BG tell me that if I switch today they will contact EDF in the next 2 weeks but that transfer will take 6-8 weeks. I can't get through to EDF to clarify on any penalties but the relevant part of the terms are:
"You agree to remain on the EDF Energy Online S@ver Version
6 Tariff for each account until the Online S@ver Version 6 Tariff
comes to an end, which, unless we write to you to advise of any
extension, shall be 30 June 2011 (the “End Date”). If you change
supplier before this date, You acknowledge and agree that We may
apply an Early Termination Fee to Your energy account(s) which
will be £25 for electricity accounts and £25 for gas accounts (a
total of £50 for customers with both gas and electricity accounts).
Such fee will become a debt on Your energy account(s) and will be
recovered through Our normal billing processes."
Anyone know when EDF interpret a 'change [of] supplier' occurs - at point of request (would trigger penalty) or point of transfer (likely after 30th June)?

I've just been on to the phone to EDF (phone was answered straight away!) and she recommended either Fixer Saver v2 or Online Saver v12. Not sure what I'm going to do yet, she was very helpful though and e-mailed me a quote with both prices on using last year's useage.
Just spoken to EDF and requested them to move me to Online Saver v12 on July 1st rather than the standard tarriff.
All the talks of price increases and to fix or not are proper doing me noggin in so hopefully I've made the right choice....0 -

hi,
did they explain to you that you will move on to this tariff as of 12 days ish and not when your present deal runs out.
the chap i spoke too said its best to leave it till mid june, albeit there is a 30% risk it will be withdrawn, i am going to wait till about the 7th of june, i would wait longer but i have a major op on the 9th and i dont really want the hassle when i come home on or around the 15th.......
anyone got any thoughts on my approach to this.0 -

Yes she did explain this, she was very good and explained everything very well. I will be moving on to the new tariff in 14 days, I don't want to run the risk of this tariff being withdrawn. My gas usage is very low at the moment with the time of year and the extra costs won't be that much.:heart2: Newborn Thread Member :heart2:
