Your last quarterly billing is not representative of a years consumption, because it won't include the colder/darker winter months when you have the heating on-that and hot water is your main fuel cost.

just ring edf and ask for a years usage in money and units.
also ask them to email you a quote of the tariffs you are interested in.
these will probably be online saver 12, fixed version 2 and theres one fixed to 2014.
dont bother comparing there standard tariff against anything as no one in there right mind will be on that for any length of time.
BG will likely come out well on the comparison sites but you have to figure the increases to come at the end of the summer, we dont know what they will be so thats where the gamble will be.
i took the v2 fixed over the online saver 12 it cost £50 more than the ols12 but it cant go up whereas ols12 will go up.
the 2014 is really tempting but it is a gamble, try searching for other fixed against your true figures

Not happy with EDF! Come winter they put up monthly, D.D, payments as you use more electric.

Most the 50 + years I have had energy bill I have paid by direct debit, as I do now, working on an estimation of energy used over the year and spreading equal payment through out the year. Come June there is a review and monthly payments are set for the next year. My last bill, for June showed I was in debt to EDF for £23!!! Their words! I asked them if they were going to pay me money back when I had over paid during the summer - of course not!!

Last Jan/Feb time they wanted to put up my payments from £30 to £55, a month, because I had used more electric, I said no as payments were estimated over the year - so were most of their meter readings. Being a pensioner, disabled and take great care with my energy use, I am very concerned about the way EDF treat their customers! Horrified by the though of having to pay £55 per month, in winter, my reaction was to turn off everything possible. I did not, many would starting with turning off any fires, feeling confident of my estimated use of electricity through out the year!! I was registered with EDF as elderly, disabled and at risk! What ever they call their listing for folk like me - fine lot they cared NOT!

Be warned all who may think of choosing EDF, they do not operate accounts paid monthly by D.D. on a yearly basis, D.D. fluctuates through out the year so payments are higher in winter! And they can be darn right nasty! Have received threatening letters saying they will gain entry to my property and change the meter, with the police if they need to, lovely people:( At the end of the year, June, I was in dept to them!!! £23!! And they tried to push it down my throat:mad::mad::mad::mad::mad: Kept a cool head :p and told them where to stick their account!

I researched hypothermia in the elderly in the late 1960's and have found elderly folk trying to keep hands warm over a candle, only have a fire a few hours a day in mid winter, not cooking to save energy! There are some caring helpful energy companies that operate accounts with payments spread throughout the year I am sticking to them even if they are a little more expencive.

Thanks for reading and you all take care! :)

everytime edf contact me about DDs i phone them, they are never correct but who ever i speak to is always very helpful.
i pay £45 gas and £55 electricity or vice versa.
i just change one to balance the other, at present they owe me £200 on the gas i told to leave it on there and this will balance increases as they happen.
i know most people wouldnt leave it there but our bills all go through my wifes payments only account and if £200 went back in it would just get spent as she would think its a windfall of some type.
so its best where it is :D
i have to say that of all the companies ive been with edf are by far the best cs wise but im not there for politeness im there for whats best for me.

I seem to remember that fairly recently energy companies were forced to reassess bills paid by DD every 6 months, and refund any overpayments immediately or readjust the DD. There was a big 'hoo haa' at the time, about people being whacked with huge bills when the fuel prices escalated and when their annual review took place it turned out they had been underpaying for months.

Not had prob keep a check on energy used, between 10 and 12 units per day depending on time of year, my grandmother didn't trust the energy suppliers any more than the coal man so checked the meter and the coal bags delivered. Sad we have to do that still! Made harder by these online accounts and IT updates etc..
