ive had a letter today from edf stating the tariff ends on the 30/6/11 they will move me to standard from then
i assume there are a lot of people here in the same boat as there was a big thread last year on this tariff with many moving from Scottish power.
so what are you people moving to?

I'm going to wait until nearer the time and see what is best on the comparison engines then. Right now, Scottish Power wins for me with a good cashback offer via Quidco - but that could also change by end of June.

    thanks leifGR,
what is the procedure with edf, i dont believe there was any cancellation fee with this tariff.
if so i might jump ship now, i hate getting caught right at the end and charged there standard rate for a month or so.
to be honest ive been a bit lazy this year with checking and moving onto there better tariffs.
the edf tariff that came up on a search was V12 this was third best for me at present, but there is a fee to leave this time.
just really trying to put it out there to people here and see what opinions are.

I certainly have cancellation fees with my deal -- otherwise I would switch now, as there are clear indications that prices are going up and the deals available now may not be there in a month's time.

Ive had the letter and Im going on a fixed rate with EDF for three years - you can register now and they will swop you over at the end of June. With BG talking about rises of 25% Id rather feel safe in the knowledge the cost will be fixed til Sept 2014

I'm on this tariff also, not had a letter yet, though the last tariff I had with EDF which ended, they sent me a letter after the end date!

Going to do some research and try and enter another fixed rate. All this talk about big hikes have scared me!

Thanks hethmar for that link. Having checked the prices, my gas would go up 23% and my electricity 44% with that tariff so I think I'll take my chances and wait until my cancellation penalty period ends and see what's around then.

Thing is LeifGR, did you do the comparison using your current saver6 rate? :( (Have to say I made that mistake when I first did the comparison and then suddenly realised it was comparing my Onlinesaver 6 with the other suppliers (hence similar percentage increases shown as you) rather than what my bill will be on the standard rate after 6 ends.)

I did some comparisons and BG was showing £325 a year less than EDF standard BUT - as we all know, BG are talking about 25% hikes in the near future. other rates came out about £100 or so less a year than what my EDF standard would be and the EDF 3 years fix will save me nothing over the standard rate AT THE MOMENT - but looking ahead, it could well save me a lot if there is another big shift upwards every year as there has been.

Re cancellation charges - I think the girl said it was £60 for dual fuel? But if you think you can save a lot with another supplier now, then it could be worth biting the bullet?

ive just spoke to a very pleasant and helpful girl who sai dont change it until early mid june (this may result in losing the tariffs if there withdrawn).
there is a £50 leaving fee for me, i didnt think there was.

at the moment i pay £1162 on dual fuel, electricity 7700kw and gas 14190kw.

below is the increases for tariffs we spoke about.

    Fixed Price 2014

    Gas and Electricity
    Monthly Direct Debit
    £543.83 gas
    £946.97 electricty
    £-328.24
    Call Us on 0800 096 9000*

    Fixed S@ver Version 2

    Gas and Electricity
    Monthly Direct Debit
    £532.81 gas
    £773.45 electricty
    £-143.70
    Call Us on 0800 096 9000*

    Online S@ver Version 12

    Gas and Electricity
    Monthly Direct Debit
    £494.01 gas
    £766.59 electricty
    £-98.04

how good or bad does this sound.

To be clear, I didn't use a comparison site but my own spreadsheet. But yes, the 23% gas and 44% electricity increases are compared to my current v6 tariff.

If I use the comparison sites, the cheapest tariff currently available (Scottish Power Online Energy Saver 14) is about the same price as EDF v6. So the choices are:

    1. Stay with v6, avoid the penalty charge (I think it's £50) and see what's available when they end. Prices by then might be higher than today, but I don't think it's going to be as much as 23%/44%. Switch and earn £60 or so cashback.
    2. Switch now to the cheapest available, pay penalty but get more or less the same amount in cashback. Take the risk of being on a variable tariff (albeit with a guaranteed discount until next year).
    3. Switch to the EDF 2014 deal, get no cashback and be guaranteed to pay 23%/44% more for a couple of years.

It's a judgement call, and my choice is 1. YMMV.
