Thing is LeifGR, did you do the comparison using your current saver6 rate? :( (Have to say I made that mistake when I first did the comparison and then suddenly realised it was comparing my Onlinesaver 6 with the other suppliers (hence similar percentage increases shown as you) rather than what my bill will be on the standard rate after 6 ends.)

I did some comparisons and BG was showing £325 a year less than EDF standard BUT - as we all know, BG are talking about 25% hikes in the near future. other rates came out about £100 or so less a year than what my EDF standard would be and the EDF 3 years fix will save me nothing over the standard rate AT THE MOMENT - but looking ahead, it could well save me a lot if there is another big shift upwards every year as there has been.

Re cancellation charges - I think the girl said it was £60 for dual fuel? But if you think you can save a lot with another supplier now, then it could be worth biting the bullet?

    hethmar,
sorry if im missing something but comparing any new rates to the STANDARD surely would be wrong as no one here is going to stay on standard or even go on standard.
if you compare to what you are paying now you will see what the increase will be to yourself and not what you wont be paying as you would never accept the standard tariff.
dont get me wrong im not trying to be smart i just dont get the logic of comparing your new tariff too edf standard.

Not really joe - my rate ends at the end of June and goes on to the standard EDF rate if I do nothing - so I was having to see what would be best for me compared with the rate at that time. I cant compare it with my current Saver6 as that wont exist.

The 3 year fixed rate may seem high at the moment but if variable rates are going to increase as per the current belief, then over the 3 years it would seem a safer bet to fix now.

without doing the maths (if i went for the edf 2014) it seems to that if BG are correct about the increases then it will be the end of 2012 early 2013 before you start to be in pocket, and that is only if the trend keeps going at very high percentages which im not sure these increases can be sustained.
but who would believe the prices now if you told someone todays prices 4 years ago.

Hi, I tried to edit my post and ending up deleting :(

I was going to say, I dont know if Im correct or not as Im not a mathematician by any means but I cant see how I could compare with my current saver 6 rate - only the standard rate they would move me to?

Just had another look/compare and I can only see my other best choice would be EDF 12 which gives a fixed rate for 18 months. But then reading Martin's home page which urges us to fix whilst we can ........................... Its all a gamble isnt it - I tend to look for the security of fixes may be thats the wrong way to do it but we can only go by our own nature cant we :)

do you mean edf online saver version 12 ?
if so this is not fixed, its the same sort of thing as ver6 only dearer, in my case by around £100.
thats the 3rd best deal on the switch sites for me at present.
a quick fix seems to be fixed saver version 2, this will cost £150 more than ver6 cost now p/a.
my yearly is £1162 + 25% would be £1452 so that would save £140 on the year with edf fixed saver version 2.
but if you were to move to online saver ver 12 my now costs are £1260 add the 25% this winter would £1575 although the year is from june and the said 25% wont be added until sometime before it gets cold.
based on these workings the 2014 fixed starts too look good quicker than i had said in a earlier post.
guys i realise my maths is not greatly laid out but hopefully you have followed it.
feel free to correct it though as im working it out as i type.

It doesn't matter what you compare it to, it'll still tell you the cheapest tariff to move to.

I was going from memory joe, I know there was one fix that went up to September 12 and thats the one I meant.

Im sick of chopping and changing to be honest but I guess it has to be done.

BG are saying that there has been a 25% hike in the wholesale price of gas-that doesn't begin to convert to a 25% hike in the retail price! It's simply a PR exercise to soften up the market for an inevitable Autumn increase.

if you intend to stay with edf then the sept 12 fixed is probably a no brainer.
it is only (on my outlay) £50pa more then the online saver ver12.
the OS VER12 is quoted at now prices so this will be much higher come the increases.
ive never done a long fixed ie 2014 but i am really considering it.

Just received a letter confirming Ive registered for the 2014 deal. It says 6% discount for direct debit, which I have anyway. They have a £35 cancellation charge for each utility which reduces during the term of the deal.

Got the same letter and would like to switch to BG with the 10k nectar points offer which expires soon.

BG tell me that if I switch today they will contact EDF in the next 2 weeks but that transfer will take 6-8 weeks. I can't get through to EDF to clarify on any penalties but the relevant part of the terms are:

"You agree to remain on the EDF Energy Online S@ver Version
6 Tariff for each account until the Online S@ver Version 6 Tariff
comes to an end, which, unless we write to you to advise of any
extension, shall be 30 June 2011 (the “End Date”). If you change
supplier before this date, You acknowledge and agree that We may
apply an Early Termination Fee to Your energy account(s) which
will be £25 for electricity accounts and £25 for gas accounts (a
total of £50 for customers with both gas and electricity accounts).
Such fee will become a debt on Your energy account(s) and will be
recovered through Our normal billing processes."

Anyone know when EDF interpret a 'change [of] supplier' occurs - at point of request (would trigger penalty) or point of transfer (likely after 30th June)?

    Cheers.
