"received wisdom" should be "perceived wisdom"

joke - before you get mad at me
I don't get mad, I get even :P
Back on topic and to be slighty hypocritical (me, not you guys) there are plenty of mistakes or phrases that irk me, probably at the top of the list is the gem of "I didn't say nothing!" most often meant as "I didn't say anything[/]". There's probably little need to explain why that sounds so stupid.
Finally I wonder what really bought this thread about?

Anyone see Watchdog last week? Premier Inn pulled an ad which had a map of the UK made up of place names, several of which were spelt incorrectly. E.g. "Isle of White", "Scarbrough"...
I went to school in the mid 80s to mid 90s and we weren't taught grammar. Since I left school, perhaps they've stopped teaching spelling as well.
It's usually fairly clear which posts are from articulate dyslexic people, which are from people who speak English as a second language and which are just from people who have very poor spelling/grammar and write as they would speak.0 -

They have!
They have been told it's bad to tell children that they've spelt something wrong.
I think it's just the end result of all that Educashun, Edukatun, Edicakeshun.0 -

Seriously?!
A friend of mine has a 5 year old and I was shocked recently to find out they don't have Sports Days at her primary school because the kids who lose events might get upset. It's ridiculous.
If the above re spelling is true then I'm even more determined to send my kids (as and when we have them) to private school.0
