The way I see it, it doesn't actually matter if it is spelt correctly or if the grammar is right provided you are able to get your message across.

But if people get sloppy and lazy and make no effort to get it "right", the number and scale of the errors that occur increase until you can no longer be sure that your message is coming across in the way you intended. And then there is no point in the communication because it isn't understood.

So if you're dyslexic or just not very good at spelling, carry on trying to get it right to increase the probability of people understanding what you're trying to say. Don't just give up because it doesn't come easily.

And to those who have a natural ability with the written word, please be gentle with those who don't! "Grammar nazis" just put some people off ever trying to get it right in the first place. Lets stick to being petty pleading pedants not dictatorial nazis!

At the risk of seeming extremely ignorant, I have no idea what 'Bridal Posse' is the wrong spelling of :o Anyone care to enlighten me?

    cars have 'brakes', not 'breaks'

Oh it drives me mental when someone who is talking about slowing down in their car says "I broke" - broke what? You mean you braked? Grrrrr!

'Chester draws' reminds me of something (which I'm sure I saw on here) where someone described something as being locked up like 'fork knocks' :rotfl:

Ah, thanks. I didn't have one of those myself, so didn't enter my thought processes (dim as they are) at all! :D

Unless they genuinely did mean 'Bridal Posse' - and they were selling a gang of bridesmaids to follow the bride down the aisle.

I LOVE this thread, and think it should be made a sticky :D

' <-- See that? It's called an apostrophe. It does not mean "hey, look out, here comes an S".

It's incredible that the signwriters seem to lack the basic skills required.

Yes, it is amazing. Locally, I have seen a car sales which has a sign saying 'Cars Brought For Cash' (I presume they meant 'bought') and a very nicely signwritten hot food van with REFESHMENTS written proudly across the front canopy....

Mis-spelling on a van is bad. An error on a tattoo is much much more awful!

10 of the best here, but there are hundreds on failblog ;)
