    Sorry Googler, but 'RP' and 'received pronunciation' are the correct expressions. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Received_Pronunciation for more. 'Received wisdom' is in the same vein - despite it sounding illogical and the fact that 'perceived' would seem to fit the bill better. So in fact the likelihood is that the change in usage will occur in the opposite way from that you suggest - namely from 'received pronunciation' to 'perceived pronunciation'.

    Perhaps if we come back to this board in another 100 years we'll see 'PP' in common use.

    OK, I yield on 'Received Pronunciation'.

    Wikipedia seems to have what I would term 'Perceived Wisdom' tagged as 'Conventional Wisdom'.....

    I stand by the view that 'Perceived Wisdom' is gradually being bludgeoned into 'Received Wisdom'.
