I know this is petty but... it's BOUGHT not BROUGHT!

I can see how it would work in a sarcastic context
It's not sad, it's educational!0 -
Sorry - as I said earlier, the OED now lists it as an interjection in it's own right, like it or not, it's a real word, spoken or written.

I didn't disagree that it's listed.I'm just saying that I personally hate it when it's used as a word rather than an acronym. No-one else has to hate it - but I do.
KiKi' <-- See that? It's called an apostrophe. It does not mean "hey, look out, here comes an S".0 -
If\When enough people use it like that, then it is correct usage.
And this campaign is about stopping people using it before it becomes enough to start being considered correct. How about this sentence...
"I went to the shops and I brought a really big bag."
did you take the bag with you to put all your other purchases in or was the sole purpose of the trip to acquire a bag? Lets resist that sort of confusion by keeping 2 different words for the 2 different meanings0 -

When it comes to linguistics, I'm well and truly in the descriptivism camp, or more correctly, I cant stand linguistic prescriptivism. On the other hand, apostrophe misuse gets me angry...:D:)~share and enjoy~0 -
An Americanisation is creeping in - 'bringing' something to another location; two folks in one place, talking about going elsewhere, and what they're taking with them, and one says "I'm bringing a picnic basket".
No, she's taking a picnic basket (elsewhere). She could bring something to where they are at present, but she'd take something elsewhere.

I wonder if this distinction is falling apart because of telecommunications? If I'm talking to you and you're already at the picnic site but I haven't arrived yet, am I bringing or taking the basket?0 -

I'd say to you that you would bring or are bringing the basket to where I am, but to anyone remote from the site, you're taking a picnic basket to the site, not bringing it.0 -
Forgive me if this one has already been brought up (or should I say bought up?!) but the Digital Switchover adverts which have been running on the BBC have been driving me nuts.
Are you 75 and over?
How can you be 75 and over? You can't be both! You're either under 75, 75, or over 75
