I think he needs to get his story straight. I don't believe he nips 50 miles to take them to and from after school clubs. If he really does, public transport is always an option!

No it's 6 months. Get a solicitor. Forum people will tell you he deserves it. Sounds like a genuine mistake to me and it's quite easy to rack up 7 points over 3 years that may just be a speeding ticket or two. Tell me no-one on this forum ever speeds. Well no-one here never seems to be caught anyway.BARGAINHUNTER! wrote: »If he were to lose his licence how long do you think he would lose it for? Just until August until his points come off or longer?:footie:

At the weekend he was driving my car home with me sat beside him when police pulled us over. They said that they had run an insurance check and the vehicle was insured to drive by one driver (correct - me!) My bf said that he had fully comp on his own car which allowed him to drive another vehicle third party. The officer took his details and said that my partners insurance covered him to drive his own vehicle fully comp only therefore was driving mine without insurance. The officer said the fine was £200 and 6 points on his licence, and if I hadn't been in the car they would have impounded it. He has to produce his documents to police station within 7 days.
When he got home he checked his insurance policy and could not find any mention of being able to drive another vehicle third party, so he phoned insurance company to check. They confirmed that he was not insured to drive my car. He is shocked as he genuinly thought that he was insured to drive my and no way would I have let him drive it had I known he was not insured I would have driven it myself!

Quoting post for reference.
Seems it isn't the first time this has been an issue ...

My Dad has had one speeding ticket in fifty years of driving, most of that doing over 1,000 miles a week. My Mum has had none. A few speeding tickets in a few years is a lot.Gone ... or have I?0 -

How has he got the points?
Yes im afraid he does! He lives 50 miles away from the school, their home and their clubs. On the mornings he has them he drives 50 miles to take them to school and 50 miles back home again. He has them on Tuesday Thursday one week and Tuesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday the next and half of all school holidays. When he has them during the week he collects them from school and drops them back again in the morning, doing any after school clubs that fall on his days.
Public transport is not an option as he lives in a rural area in the middle of no where!
His points are for speeding and the last lot were for failing to produce his documents in time at the police station. We were worried that he was going to lose his licence then as it took him up to 11 points but he managed to keep it.MFW 2011 challenge - Aim: Overpay £414.26 a month/£5,000 a year. Looks like he needs to review his arrangements then ... Not least because that amount of travel to and from school is not fair on the children.Gone ... or have I?0 -

Yes I totally agree. I myself have no points after many years of driving. But I can hand on heart say that I must have been doing over 30 in a 30 zone at some point, I was just fortunate not to get caught (thats not to say I speed because i don't) Lets just say that my bf is very unlucky, and not just in driving either! Bad luck just seems to follow him around unfortunately!!MFW 2011 challenge - Aim: Overpay £414.26 a month/£5,000 a year. Well it looks like public transport will have to be an option shortly unless he starts using taxis/cabsBARGAINHUNTER! wrote: »Public transport is not an option as he lives in a rural area in the middle of no where!.This is a system account and does not represent a real person. Its a 45 minute drive. They quite happy with it as they have lots of one on one talking time with Dad.Looks like he needs to review his arrangements then ... No public transport available at all and taxi would be totally out of his reach financially. I only mentioned the children as I wondered if the fact that he had to do this might give him a slim chance of keeping hold of his licence, especially as 5 points are due to come off in August.MFW 2011 challenge - Aim: Overpay £414.26 a month/£5,000 a year.
