  • tell your friend not to defend this himself but to get a good solicitor who hopefully will explain to the magistrates that 'driving' is part of your friends lively-hood.

another unemployed plumber drawing benefits isnt going to help the economy. hopefully a large fine but no disqualification.

  • Go to pepipoo.com as they have a very good speeding section.

It's funny how everyone 'really needs their licence' yet doesn't think about that when driving too fast !

To get the points is a mistake but to forget to show his licence etc to the Police...... he deserves what he gets.

Realistically, won't he get a ban under the totting up procedure ?
Thanks to MSE I cleared £37k of debt in five years and I was lucky enough to meet Martin to thank him personally.

In some cases the judge might suspend the ban if he/she deems that it's the drivers lively-hood that he needs a license.

If the livelihood is that important they wouldn't have got the points in the first place, sad fact is I bet they were speeding all the time and just happened to get caught.

ISTR it being stated bans could not be avoided due to livelihoods any longer, I could be wrong - but most people drive to work. He can carry his plumbing gear on the bus or in a taxi just like your average person can use those methods to get to work, he does not need to be able to drive (even though it makes things easier - and looks better to customers). Many people also pick up their kids from school, but a car is not essential to do so. Because they drive to work does not mean the car is essential for work. However, for example, being able to drive a lorry is essential to be able to be employed as a lorry driver.

Kids are probably better off if he does have a ban TBH as they can't then get in the car with a father who has complete disregard for motoring law.
