There is some really disgusting stuff available on the net. Your son has probably seen some of it.

Yes, it's normal to be curious, but I would say 13 is way too young to have unsupervised access to the web. You need to monitor his use. Keep the PC/laptop downstairs where you can see it, and make sure you get yourself a password protected system and a decent site blocking system (find out how if you don't know). You might not stop him viewing it elsewhere (friends homes etc) but you can make it a hell of a lot harder for him.

... Before I say anything, can I please please ask the Mods not to move this to the arms. I know its not moneysaving, but, it will get the mickey taken out of this if it is moved, and Im really stressing about it, and looking for advice.
I agree with this. I think you should specify that the mods must delete the thread rather than move it.

I was also going to suggest K9 as well. The is also a browser (made by Mozilla, who make Firefox) that was developed for the Islamic community called Halalscape that automatically blocks inappropriate content.(it's safe to use,I have it on my laptop in case my nieces want to look at stuff when they come to visit)
I'd lock out the other accounts on the PC with a password so he can't use them & set him up a secondary account, with a master password you know & he can't change (set your account as administrator)
Instal K9 & Halalscape for him to use.

I think you will find it impossible to stop him from completely looking at !!!!!!, if it isn't at your house on your computer, it will be at his mates house, or videos on mobiles. But I think as a responsible parent you should stop him accessing this stuff on your computer and you should follow the advice already given.

In my day, it was find a few pages from a porno mag down at the park! I remember thinking it was the greatest day ever when that happened! lol We would also watch a mates dad's !!!!!! he found under the bed! I was probably younger than 13 when I was first exposed to !!!!!! and I have turned out fine, so don't worry! :rotfl:

While you can stop him going on these sites at home, the chances are that he will see them at friends' houses, so talk to him about why you're unhappy with the effect viewing them may have on him.

Teenage girls know how viewing these sites has affected boys' expectations - how they are meant to look and what they're expected to do.

i agree, computer in a public area, passwords, used only at specific times and a block to enable you to specify what sites are used, ie

    homework sites
    wiki
    bbc
    etc

    thats all he needs

Rather than installing some software on the PC

I think you'll find this DNS method easier

    Family Shields

    They provide clear instructions too

Still not 100%, since there are still ways round it,but until they find those will provide some protection

Years ago, you dipped your toes in gently, a sneaky peak at Health and Efficiency, and then maybe work your way up to Parade etc

But now on the internet your straight in at the deep end ( far too easily IMHO)
  • Thank you everyone for your replies.

Will have a look at those security websites and see if I can download the security.

I have spoken to him tonight and said he will only be allowed on the computer in the kitchen, he hasnt to take it into his room.

I have asked him why he looks at these sites, and he said all the boys at school have been talking about them, and he felt left out!!!!

His dad is going to have another word with him tomorrow. I have had to tell my husband to calm down but hes more annoyed that he has ignored our rules, and he feels he has no respect for us rather than him looking at the !!!!!!!

Another thing thats really bugging me is the trust issue. he got caughte before and said he wouldnt do it again, and I trusted him not to look at them, and he has broken that trust. I find it really hard to trust people, so Im a bit upset about that, I feel kind of let down! Does that make any sense?

Oh and mods, if you do feel the need to move this to the arms, I would (as someone kindly pointed out) rather it was deleted than moved there.
