How much is your OH's annual income?0
-
Apologies if I'm wrong, but I'm sure I read on the thread that the op's oh is a higher tax payer. I think that starts on 40k pa. As to the restrictions, I can understand the op's frustrations, but if everyone started putting restrictions on their employment, and started asking for it to be written into their JSA contract, there would be chaos!!
Apology accepted0 -
Hi Jo
You have mentioned that your partner is £5 over the high wage threshold for childcare costs etc....
What does this mean?
You state you only have £70pcm for food and other essentials.
I would expect you to be back in work soon with hours to suit your needs if you continue applying but in the meantime you may want to look at your outgoings. Spending the majority of a high income on mortgage and credit card debt is not feasible at the moment.
Why do you both need to be out of debt by next year, surely paying the minimum for a few months would help your current financial circumstances or looking at transferring debt to a 0% deal for up to 12 months.
have you considered looking for a new deal if you can for your mortgage.
Have you looked into reducing your fuel bills by changing to a different provider (check compare websites/u switch)
With the current income being high as you stated you shouldn't be leaving yourself with very little disposable income.
Do you not have any family that could help for the time being so you can expand your jobsearch.
Finally, consider jobs where you could work from home, take a look at the other forums on here for some pointers.Forums can be/are a good guide to entitlement and it is good practice to back it up with clarification from the relevant department/specialist with written confirmation to safeguard yourself.0 -
I read the OP as meaning £5 over the threshold to qualify for WTC?0

i meet the criteria IM LOOKING FOR WORK im willing to work 40 hrs a week but just because i want to work from 5 in the evening im not entitled to jack?
i hope your never placed in a situation like this and find that you recieve no help what so ever!
I didn't say you don't meet the criteria. If you read my post you will see that I said the decision maker has to see if you fit the criteria for jobseekers, ie check that there are jobs available in your area for the hours you want to work. At the end of the day you can't expect to be given benefits if you restrict your hours to times when there is no work available. If there are jobs available which fit in with your hours, you should be entitled to JSA. If there aren't, then you won't get JSA. The DM will work off the guidance set down by DWP.
You have no idea what my personal circumstances are now or in the past so don't see why you needed the last line in your post but, hey ho, if you want to start getting personal go ahead. I won't be rising to it.0 -
I'm a single parent so the rules may be different... but... I'm sure that if you're income is below a certain amount ("that the law says you need to live on") then you will be able to get some income support. I think your partner must earn more than this as you don't qualify for tax credits but wondered if income support/ council tax benefit department would consider your loan repayments when working out if they can hep.*SIGH*0

If your partner is £5 over the threshold then you need to be looking at your outgoings. I earned £19,000 last year (due to maternity leave) and my partner £5,000 and we get 70% of our childcare paid.0

You made choice to go through with having kids,
and so its now upto you to work out how to afford to keep them.
And this "kid" will be paying for the future benefits and heathcare of anyone old enough to have an opinion on this forum.
Children are future tax payers, It is not good enough to say "you chose to have kids" Children are vital to the continuation of the species, If only the well off had them there would not be enough of them.
I have mixed feelings about whether the OP is entitled to JSA so not getting in to that.0 -
thats how we are
though you paint a bleak picture
I'll admit we dont do much together but we do plenty with my boy separately
as for worrying about money? well thats about cutting your cloth to fit your means
we both work FT and have nursery cover 4 days a week(though often dont use it dependent on shifts)
its manageable but not always easy, like many things in life.
Thats how we worked too for a couple of years, Its not ideal but the worst that happened was my hubby got addicted to all the Soaps and watched them avidly lol0 -
I read the OP as meaning £5 over the threshold to qualify for WTC?
Then I apologise, as I obviously read it wrong:o However the rest of my post stands. If anyone wants to claim JSA, then they have to be available for work anytime, otherwise everyone would be putting on "restrictions"! Allen had a good suggestion, nip over to the DFW board, put up a SOA (statement of affairs) and there are many good people there who can help cut down on expenditure. It's amazing what you can save with a bit of thought and juggling around0
