This was my point in my previous post. I am single, no children and work an evening job which is tiring and I don't think it could be sustainable in the long term. Money imo is only worth so much, but family time/health and worth far more.

My parents worked this kind of way with my father working during the day and my mother working in the evenings doing cleaning jobs. While their relationship is far from perfect, we never got the chance to do anything as a family and anytime that was free was spent feeling knackered. Neither had a social life because there was no time and the loneiness of feeling locked up in the house looking after kids left them worried about nothing but money.

    thats how we are
though you paint a bleak picture
I'll admit we dont do much together but we do plenty with my boy separately
as for worrying about money? well thats about cutting your cloth to fit your means
we both work FT and have nursery cover 4 days a week(though often dont use it dependent on shifts)
its manageable but not always easy, like many things in life.

the fact i choose to stay at home during "normal" working hours and choose to look for work between 5-12pm mon-sun should not be an issue to the JSA! unless im going to be entering a job that pays out 25+k childminding would deff be benificial but at the moement it does not make sense to! (previous debts are from before i met my partner and will be cleared by jan next year) i expect the financial help as i have worked since being 15 and payed my way, the moment i have asked for help i get kicked down constantly! i dont want and dont plan on being on benefits for as long as i can get away with it, i WANT a job and i NEED the financial help in the meantime whilst finding one!

I haven't read the whole thread yet but as someone who's recently been on JSA, I would have thought that you should be able to have a JS agreement for those hours you said. I had an agreement and was asked to agree to 10-3 five days a week. I asked that I not be obliged to work Thursdays and this was agreed to and put into the agreement but that was down to the individual JC staff member's discression I think.

I wonder if you could be entitled to some income support or council tax benefit? I don't know if either of these will consider the money you use for repaying debts as income that you could choose to spend on living costs though...

it must be down to the staff memeber! your hours and days are far more "restricted" than mine!
i cant claim any of the above as i own my ownhome and i live with my partner!

I'm a single parent so the rules may be different... but... I'm sure that if you're income is below a certain amount ("that the law says you need to live on") then you will be able to get some income support. I think your partner must earn more than this as you don't qualify for tax credits but wondered if income support/ council tax benefit department would consider your loan repayments when working out if they can hep.

I'm now working and still entitled to some council tax benefit - although just a couple of pounds a week.

Can you do anything to lessen the amount you need to pay towards your debts? Maybe call the lender/s and see if they can help?

Can you move to a smaller place/cheaper area?

As you're a parent of such a young child (and a mother so needed for feeding!) I'm really surprised that to qualify for help you need to be available for such long hours, unless the money your husband has coming in means you "should" have enough to live on - I mean they're not considering the loan repayments.

Where did you get that bit from? The child is over a year old. Plenty of mothers return to work after less time.

Apologies if I'm wrong, but I'm sure I read on the thread that the op's oh is a higher tax payer. I think that starts on 40k pa. As to the restrictions, I can understand the op's frustrations, but if everyone started putting restrictions on their employment, and started asking for it to be written into their JSA contract, there would be chaos!!

A child over 12 months old would not be dependant on breastmilk.
