If your overdraft is authorised u shouldn't pay anything right? Unless u mean u went over your authorised over draft.

Hi All, Im a newbie here so apologies if this has been discussed a million times before. I have searched several times to try to answer my question but alas, each search has proven fruitless.
I'm claiming against Lloyds (boo) and have received my statements for the last 6 years but Im unsure what I can claim for. I can obviously claim for O/DRAFT EXCESS Fees but what else can I claim for (If anything). Please help - can I claim for:

    ACCOUNT CHARGE
    O/DRAFT INTEREST
    UNPAID D/D
    UNPAID S/O

Dont worry if I can't claim - I just want to dot my T's and cross my I's ;o) before I put my claim in.

    Thanks in advance.

    Kind Regards,

    Unauthorised overdraft fee
    Unpaid DD fee
    Unpaid cheque fee
    Unpaid standing order fee
Late payment fee (credit cards, store cards, catalogues etc)
    Exceeding Authorised Overdraft Limit
    Exceeding Unauthorised Overdraft Limit
    Direct Debit/Standing Order/Cheque returned fee

If it is an authorised the charge may well be a service fee, which you cannot claim. Interest charged on an authorised overdraft cannot be claimed either.

Does anyone know if it is legal for a company to charge you for not making payments to them via direct debit? As it is, Virgin Media (ntl) is charging me £5 (was £4) a month because I pay my bill (telephone & Broadband) over the counter. They said I will not incur this charge if I agree to pay them via direct debit. If this charge is illegal, how to I get them to pay me back?

Can you claim back any interest rates. I feel that are are unnecessarily high and im sure many others do.

Is this something you can try to claim back ie. authorised overdraft

It irritates me personally intensely that I must pay it even though I pay by credit card and am also charged for the telephone call to do so ! I refuse to use Direct Debit as trading under NTL they simply could not get it right and I ended up with bank charges. Round and round we go.

In answer to your question though it isnt an illegal charge as it is a service charge. It would be deemed reasonable for any cost involved in processing payments by other methods. If you have a bank that is competant at handling direct debit then switch to that and save the cost.

Thanks for your quick response. I used to pay "ntl" by Direct Debit, but I cancelled it when they dragged their foot in fixing a problem with my broadband, and refused to pay the broadband until they fixed it. As it was, I did not have to pay anything for the duration that the service was not working properly. Since then, I refused to pay by direct debit. I am considering your suggestion, as there appears to be no way out of their charges. Thanks again.
