My husband has lots of Account Maintenance charges - £15 a time, but we don't know what they are and if we can reclaim them.
Have posted this already, but probably in the wrong place. Will be grateful for any help you can give. Thanks

If you don't know what they are you need to phone the bank and ask. Each bank has their own terms for what their charges are.
  • Just sorting through my old bank statements and looking forward to grabbing Barclays by the... well, you know what.
But, I know I can try to claim for unauthorised overdraft charges, but, can I claim for what they are calling a 'Paid referral fee'?

    Cheers.

These are for exceeding your agreed overdraft limit only applied if you are over limit in that month and debited on a specific date the next month. So overdrawn in Feb charged for whatever made you overdrawn eg bounced cheque, returned D/D etc at £xx and then in March charged another £xx. Basically a penalty and therefore claimable!!! gleaned from Consumer action Group website.

  • I have been looking at recent statements and found some charges I am unsure of. They are: notified fees/charges, account fee, intrest and overdraft arrangement fee. The reason they are confusing me is that it is over a 3/4 day period and total around £150!! Can this be right?
  • Hello,

Sorry if I'm posting this in the wrong section....
I got myself into a bit of a mess financially last month, and as a result was charged £150 in bank charges :( Can anyone tell me where I stand, as to how much a bank can actually get away with charging me in one month? I think £150 is ridiculous, and the only way I've not been charged the same amount again this month is by borrowing that amount off my sister.
I know its possible to claim the full amount back having read the other posts, but am reluctant to do so, as this is the first time its happened and its unlikely I'd get another account with as high overdraft as I do.
My account is with Abbey if that helps.

    Thanks.

Well when my direct debit bounced i got charged a one-off fee of £30, but i paid the debit soon after. Did you pay off the DD after you got the first charge?
  • I had 2 direct debits due out on the same day, and didn't have enough in my account to cover them. As soon as I realised, I paid them off with my credit card. But I'd already been charged by then. And as a result of these charges went over my overdraft limit, and was charged even more....I can understand how peoples debt spirals out of control.
  • Probably a really thick question, but I am charged up to £7.00 a month for the privalage of having an overdraft, whether I'm in it or not whist paying interest on the overdraft if I have used it. Just to check, are these charges OK? I have never gone over my overdraft limit.
  • I am a bit confused about what I can actually claim back. Is it purely the charges or can I ask for interest they charged back too? Any help would be gratefully received.
