  • If I'm just claiming the charges for failed Direct Debits, do I claim back the whole £38 I was charged or a smaller amount giving them money to cover the direct debit failing and if so how much do I claim back out of the £38?
  • Claim the full amount, see the link in my signature Reclaim Help Thread, post 4 for what you can and can't claim.
  • I've had my last six years bank details from the Alliance & Leicester, I have been through them. I find Ive been charged nearly every month, but not every month, a Commison charge of either £25.00 or £15.00 also there are further charges of between £8.00 and £25.00 for Service charges? has anyone got any further information as to what these charges are for and how to ask the bank what the charges are? any ideas as to my course of action would be gratefully accepted:confused:

  • As my above post, read the Reclaim Help Thread but if you have any queries please ring your bank and check as they will have a bank charges list.

You can claim some or all of the charges.

Hi all, my first post on this forum (weheyy!) but a regular visitor to the MSE website and I also attended Martin's :money: talk at LSE last week.

I wanted to ask him a question but he ran out of time, I hope maybe someone can help me here. Forgive me for my ignorance on the matter, I am reading the pages on reclaiming bank charges....

I bank with HSBC (Student/Graduate Account) and have only been charged 'bank charges' (ie for Direct Debit failures, Late Payment charge on my Credit Card) a few times, probably totalling no more than £120....but because I have gone over my overdraft limit a number of times I have been charged interest on each occasion, and this totals up to around £150 or so.

My question is...can I reclaim the interest charges of the last 6 years as well as the bank charges? Is there a difference between the two?

ie in one month I was charged £1.96 interest but no 'charge' on top
in another month I was charge £0.66 interest but no 'charge' on top:mad:
    etc etc

    Help!

    Thanks again,

    Regards

    AHK
  • You can't claim the interest for going overdrawn. Have a look at post 4 in the Reclaim Help Thread link in my signature.
  • Hi - We are confused....Can we claim for a temporary overdraft limit fee for increasing our limit for a month?

    Thanks!
  • Hi everyone,
I've been a lurker for a little while but never posted on the site!

My bank has just charged me £38 for paying an £8 Direct Debit when there wasn't enough money left in the account to pay it. although i did pay in a cheque that same day it didn;t have chance to register or clear. I just wondered whether this was allowed after all the recent reclaim your old bank charges stuff. isn't the fee only meant to be £12 now?

I'm so pee'd off  with myself for getting charged! I've been doing well with my budget for months but I live so close to my OD that it oly takes a little slip up!
