I am going to help my son with this. I never incur bank charges so it is all new ground for me.
Looking at his current Abbey statement what out of the following would we ask to have refunded:
Interest charged while account overdrawn £10.37
Charge for unpaid standing order no.25 £35
Charge for clearing Direct Debit/Standing order
While overdrawn £30
" dittto" £30
Charge for clearing VISA payment while
overdrawn £30
Charge for an overdraft that has not
been authorised £20
In other words would we claim for all or should we be selective?0 -

Could someone explain this to me !!!!!!
The law is plain: any charges banks levy on their customers must be proportional to the actual costs they incur. The simple question is, ‘does it really cost £35 to send an automated letter when someone’s gone 1p over the limit?’
Does this mean if i was to go overdrawn by £ 50 the bank then can actually charge £50 ??
Im confused ??0 -
Hi there
I recently claimed and won with Lloyds.. the majority of my charges were returned DD fees..
Am now sorting my Dads out... can someone please confirm which charges can be claimed and which ones cant?
Ie: Account charges (monthly)

Hi i bank(ed) with Abbey and am about to start my claim, I've read over the list up top regarding these charges....
Account misuse fee
Cheque return fee
Card misuse fee
Unarranged borrowing fee
Unauthorised overdraft fee
Unpaid DD fee
Unpaid cheque fee
Unpaid standing order fee
Late payment fee (credit cards, store cards, catalogues etc)
Exceeding Authorised Overdraft Limit
Exceeding Unauthorised Overdraft Limit
Direct Debit/Standing Order/Cheque returned fee
Irregular fee
Does anyone also know if i can claim for these charges.....
Instruction was paid when there was not enough money in your account
Direct debit was paid when there was not enough money in your account
Standing order was paid when there was not enough money in your account
Cheque was paid when there was not enough money in your account
These all had a £20 fine
???????????????????????????
Also, a while back i went overdrawn by 30p or something ridiculous like that (i didnt have an overdraft) and after getting some charges i had £50 refunded - would that have any effect on my claim? Apart from obviously deducting this from the total amount.0 -
You can claim every charge you've listed above. The £50 refund will not affect your claim (just deduct this from the total). How many surrealists does it take to change a lightbulb?

Also this may seem a silly question and i'm sure it wont but i just wanted to check - i am one of those nutters (yeah yeah - whos laughing now
) who kept all her bank statements so i dont need to apply for them and go straight in at step 2, but there are a few missing, at the end of the day my claim is for about £1200 so if there are a couple of charges here and there i've missed i'm not bothered for the sake of getting my statements, i know i have all the statements of the "bad dates". Would this affect anything if it went to court? 0
