Do you write a letter of Thanks every time you shop at tesco's or buy petrol for the car?

What you really want is little stars or housepoints next to your name telling everyone what a good person you are.

Yeah yeah can I have a gold star please today thanks.:T

I do a lot of shopping on e-bay, mainly because I am housebound a lot of the time. If I get a particularly good service, or a friendly helpful seller, or if the item I have ordered turns out to be amazing value, then I always leave feedback. If it is just a bog standard transaction, I often won't bother simply because for me it is no different than doing a Tesco online shop or ordering a CD from play.com - I don't leave feedback then either.

I work on the principle that 'no news is good news' if feedback is not left for me on whichever site I've made the sale :D

I sold some items recently and sent them all Special delivery and despatched in one working day. Also kept the buyers informed and received no feedback. The good news is there is an item I have in my possession that I know these buyers would love to have but I will see they are blocked from bidding.
Why would you block someone from bidding because they didn't leave feedback. That's just stupid the only person who will suffer is you as you may get a lower price or not even a sale because you blocked a perfectly good customer who paid you good money.

Maybe next time you don't write a letter of thanks to Amazon they should block you from buying as that makes just as much sense.

These posters saying they don't write to thank Tesco's when shopping with them are missing the point.

There's a huge difference between buying from an individual and buying from Tesco. Don't you say thank you to the girl on the till as you walk away with your purchases? What's the difference between doing that and writing it in feedback?

As I said before - it's simple good manners IMO.

Well said. Feedback is the essence of Ebay! To quote Ebay -
Feedback is a system that eBay members use to rate their buying or selling experience with another eBay member.

Although I don't think that newbies have done this rule -

If you want to leave negative Feedback, you may be asked to complete a tutorial on negative Feedback first. This should only take a few minutes.
There is no eBay policy that specifies who should leave Feedback first.

We strongly encourage everyone to leave Feedback. Without it, you wouldn't be able to evaluate other members before doing business with them. However, it's not compulsory and we can't ask a member to leave Feedback for you.

If your trading partner doesn't leave Feedback for you, you may choose to send them a polite reminder via email. If they still don't leave Feedback, it's likely they've chosen not to leave a comment for you at all.
Makes interesting reading and I bet everyone has not read all the rules and regs. I will be honest I haven't but as time goes on you get to know them. Here speaks 7 years worth of Ebay fun and heartache. :A

it's not laziness, in many case it's the conscious decision that buyers don't deserve feedback until they have left positive fb themselves
probably the same people who were using neg fb to retaliate against buyers who complained, and the very reason why ebay stopped neg fb for buyers

Glad you said many cases, as none of that applies to my situation. I always leave positive feedback on receipt of goods.

As an occasional seller I leave feedback when item is sent and find it useful when buyers leave fb since I know then they got the item.

As a seller I leave feedback once an item is paid for. As a buyer I leave it the day the item arrives. As yet I have never had an unsatisfactory item, but if I did I would contact the seller before leaving feedback - to me it would still be a positive if the situation was resolved efficiently.

What really annoys me is sellers expecting feedback, even asking for it, but not leaving it for me as a buyer. As far as I am concerned, if the buyer has paid promtly then a positive should be left, not witheld just in case you as a seller can't provide good service and a good item.

no it definitely does not apply to your case :)

even the 'many cases' was referring to sellers who don't leave fb for buyers, many of those, but definitely not many sellers in general, the vast majority leaves fb
too many time I hear sellers on boards complain that they can no longer leave neg fb to retaliate, and they don't leave fb until they get it first. that's the sort of sellers I was referring to...

better clarify before I'm accused of being anti-sellers (or anti-buyers depending on the circumstances ;)...)

i always leave feedback, and it really annoys me to when people dont, the only time i wont leave feedback is when its not good, for example, i brought a camera last week, it was a broken for spares or repairs but was described as new with no damage to the exterior. i only wanted the casing as mine was scratched so i was gonna get someone i knew to swap over the casings. when it arrived it was scratched and had a big dents in 2 corners, i emailed the seller and he said he would refund the cost of the camera but i would have to pay return postage, the camera was £8 original postage was £5 so i would of only in effect of gotton £3 back! so i didnt return the camera i gave it away on freecycle and leave him feedback! thinking about it now thou i think i may leave him neutral, cause im not really being fair to other ebayers by only leaving positive feedback am i???
