Just had the same text. Wouldn't have minded too much if they said why or at least made it a bit nicer to read. All it was missing was a "so there!" at the end.

Don't know how they can do this without giving 30 days notice, but either way I think I will be switching to icardmobile.co.uk after reading on here for the last 20 mins. Looks by far the best (cheaper than even adsa current rates). Only thing is the price may rise also in coming months and there is no data or roaming available.
  • I've been with asda for a few years now. The mane reason for going with them was that I don't use mobile's to call a lot and the call charges were good. Since the start of 2010 I've credited my asda mobile with £40.

I have virgin BB (20mb), TV (2 boxes no movies-sports), Phone (talk unlimited) at home and spend £67-£70 per month on this service. Most of my calls are made from my home phone to land lines. Virgin offer free calls to virgin mobiles on talk unlimited so I call friends, family and my own virgin mobile (PAYG) with in this cost.

When needed, I use my asda mobile to call/text people when I'm out and about. Others on virgin (lane lines with talk unlimited) call my virgin mobile.
I'm not that happy about the asda price increase but its still cheaper than my virgin mobile call charges at present. With the way I make use of both virgin and asda its still not a bad deal for me.

The increase is shocking when you break down the percentages (if only my wages increased the same every year :j ):

    8p to 10p (25%)
    4 to 6p (50%)

I don't use voice mail, internet, MMS etc.

Try giffgaff. Make sure you get a pac code once you've spent your asda credit, so that asdamobile realise they're losing customers. To be fair if the prices go up on 31st May, you've had more than 30 days notice,

Virgin have a sim only offer on at the moment £5 per month...you get 100 mins plus unlimited texts, great deal but you need to be with Virginto get it.

With bundles and top-up rewards beginning from just £5, even relatively modest users can find a seemingly better deal through the increasingly incomprehensible myriad of deals, rewards and bundles. I'd expect more deals like Talkmobile's 100 mins, 100 texts and 100MB for £5.11 deals to appear to get more light users on to monthly bills. 32 minutes and 32 texts on Asda's new tariff gets to the same price - so even if well over half the allowance wasn't used it could still be cheaper.

Thanks to you (& tony077844) for mentioning TalkMobile :j; SIMpletalker £5.11/mth appears the best option for me. HOWEVER, a word of warning to anyone planning to switch to them AND port your number: I did it online - diligently entering my PAC & mobile no. on the site - only to be told, after running my Asda credit down, that Talkmobile hadn't ported my number. Their customer service didn't know why, said it happens to a lot of people, offered me £15 gesture of goodwill & said I would have to go to a store & get a return & resale. This took 50mins in their Croydon store yesterday - 30mins waiting, 20mins to go through the whole process; & now waiting 4days to port! Having investigated myself & looked at their FAQs I've found this:

    "Pay Monthly & SIMple
If you would like to bring your number with you, you can as long as you buy the product in The Carphone Warehouse or through our direct sales team and have your PAC number. You cannot transfer your number if you buy it on-line."

So clearly a fault that their webpage allowed me to enter the PAC etc - & still does. Just wanted to post so no-one else goes through my pain. :o

I've used ASDA for a while. This seems very cheeky and I don't really see why they need to do it now there are plenty of other competitors at their price range.
  • migrated from asda mobile to icard mobile without a hitch last week everything is fine except for the icard mobile voicemail service....
an incoming call goes to the voicemail message with barely enough time to hear and pick up the phone,so i've ended up missing a pile of calls and had to call all these people back after going thru the listening to the voicemails instead of simply being able to answer the call in the first place.i count 14 seconds from when my phone rings till it cuts out and voicemail kicks in.anyway i called their customer service team and they switched off the voicemail service for me,but now the phone just cuts off after the same time and says i'm unavailable try later.i've called and emailed and tried to get a little more ringing time but seems that nothing can be done.very clever ploy of icard mobile to reverse the charges almost cheap calls or no cheap calls.

I'm sure you can increase the dealy before voicemail with a **61*<VMnumber>*11*30# sequence, upto max of 30s i think. I think *#61# tells you the voicemail redirect number and current time delay.
